“Chun, it’s been almost six months and you still haven’t proved to me that you’re responsible to take over the company yet.” Mike said lecturing his son, again.
“Dad, Ella and I are trying.” he lied.
“That’s not the problem, Chun. In these past months I haven’t seen you do one good thing for your wife without your mother and I forcing you to do it.”
“What do you want from me then, dad?” Chun asked angrily.
“Do you know what Ella does all this time when you’re away?” Mike asked.
Honestly? Chun didn’t have a clue.
“She cries. I’ve seen her. When she’s cooking, cleaning, and doing her part of a wife, she cries! While you come home drunk every night trying to seduce her into having sex, because you think I’ll give you the company because you’re becoming a father?!”
Chun stayed quiet.
“Even if Ella’s pregnant. You will never be able to raise the kid because you’re barely home. If a man can‘t even take care of his wife, how is he suppose to take care of a company?!”
---
“Jiro how did you get this? You surely didn’t just buy it.” Ella asked
“I found it, Ella.”
“Where?”
“In front of an orphanage home.” he replied. He saw the look on her face turned white, and then she fell on to the floor.
“Ella!” Selina cried. Jiro carried her on to a sofa and called up Chun.
---
“You really need to eat more. You’re so light.” Chun said as he saw Ella rubbing her eyes waking up.
She groaned.
“Chun? What are you doing here?” Ella asked getting up.
“This is my home. Why can’t I be here?”
“I was just wondering. It’s only lunch time.”
“Well, Jiro sounded pretty worried over the phone and I-”
“JIRO!” she exclaimed and looked at the necklace on wrapped around her hand.
“Yeah, Jiro.” He looked at her and smiled. “Were you seeing him behind my back?” Chun accused.
“No! But look at this, Chun.” she held out the necklace.
“So?”
“It’s my name.” Ella said.
“Anyone could have that name Ella. What’s wrong with it?”
“Do you see the surname? It’s Chen. I’m a Cheng. Not a lot of people have ‘Chen’ as their surname. Did Mr. and Mrs. Chen ever had a child?” Ella asked.
“Why are you asking this, Ella?”
‘Because I’m not a Cheng. I come from a place where this necklace was found. I want to know who I am. I’ve been loosing myself into love. Your love. I need to find myself, Chun.’ she wanted to say.
“I’m just wondering.” Ella said.
“Hey, you’re so weird. Whenever I ask you about your family. You always push me away. Is there something you’re not telling me?” he asked.
“Why would I need to hide something from you?” Ella asked
“You tell me Mrs. Wu. Maybe you are seeing Jiro behind my back and you’re hiding it.” he teased.
