Chapter 2 (part two):

“Dad!” Wang jerked around. Embarrassed that he’d been caught by his son. “Dad what are you doing?” Wang quickly pulled the child out of the lake before it’s head could feel the cold.

“Jiro! What are you doing here?”

“I wanted to see the baby. They told me that you took her. Where is she?” Wang was sure he was going to break out into tears.

“Jiro,” He calmly called his son’s name. “ I want you to listen to me. I want you to take the baby and run away from here are far as you can. Do you understand me?” Jiro slowly nodded his head.

“DON’T ever come back here ok?” Wang could see the tears forming in his eyes.

“Wang!” Qian called from the yard.

“Jiro, I want you to go! Now!”

“Where am I going?” He cried as he started to run with the child in his arms.

“Anywhere but here! I’ll come and find you when I have the time.”

Since Jiro was born, he was taught to command, not ask. And that’s what he did. He took the baby and ran for their lives, knowing that the other gangs would come for him soon.

Even though he was still young, he knew the things his father did was bad, and the only reason why he stayed at the ‘prison house’ was for his father.

Jiro ran until the baby started crying. He looked for the safest place to rest and he found it a few blocks away from a near by park.

An orphanage home.

Jiro shifted the baby to one arm while he was ranged the door bell. After a few minuets, Jiro saw the lights inside glow and when he saw a woman open the door, Jiro set the baby down and ran.

“Hey! Hey! You! STOP!” But he didn’t. Jiro ran leaving the baby at the steps of the orphanage. The woman picked up the crying baby and took her inside.

---

“Any sign of her, Qian?” The bosses asked with anger in his voice. Qian shook his head. “Wang, I didn’t think you where this low.”

“Neither did I.” he spoke softly.

“What was that?” the boss asked him.

“What did they do to you anyways, Yan?” Wang asked.

“Wang, you should know very well, ‘what?’.”

“Well, tell me because I don’t. What did the Chen’s do, to you to make you so mad?”

“It’s not what they did to ‘me‘, but to ‘us‘. After the arrest in the ally, half of my men died. If one of my soldiers fall, we all fall. They took away the only thing that made me powerful, and now I’m taking the only thing that made them happy.” Yan looked into Wang’s eyes seeing anger and fear. “Qian.” he said calmly. “Give it to me.” Qian looked at Wang and gave Yan what he wanted. Qian closed his eyes as he stood his ground, while Yan pointed his handgun into the forehead of his long timed employee.

One…

Two…

Three..

BANG!!

Qian opened his eyes slowly and bit down his tongue to keep himself from crying.

“Qian, clean this up.” Yan told him as he walked way, with his head held high.

CHAPTER 2

...Six Years Later...

“Jia Hua! There someone here to see you!” A little girl turned around with a smile glued on to her face. “Mr. and Mrs. Cheng!!” Jia Hua ran and hugged her favorite visitors.

“Jia Hua! You act like you haven’t seen us in a long time.”

“Yesterday was a long time.” Jia Hua pointed out. Mr. Cheng smiled.

“Jia Hua, we have some very good news for you.” Jia Hua smiled.

“Did you get me some candy?” Mrs. Cheng shook her head.

“Nope, even better. We are taking you to come and live with us!! FORVER!” Jia Hua’s smile turned into a bigger smile, if even possible.

“Really?” Both of the parents nodded. “FOREVER?! Yay!! When do I get to leave?”

“Now.”

“Now?” Jia Hua asked just to be sure.

“Yes, ma’am.” an old lady answered from behind.

“Grandma Popo!” Jia Hua ran and gave her a hug.

“Why don’t you go pack up your things and say good bye to all of your friends Jia Hua, then you can say leave with Mr. and Mrs. Cheng. Jia Hua nodded and ran into her room.

---

“Tank!!” Jia Hua yelled from behind.

“Ella! Why are you so happy today?”

“I’m going home. And never coming back.”

“Never? What about me?” the little boy asked sadly.

“Ok, I’ll come and visit you sometime ok?”

“Ok, Ella. Promise?!!” Tank replied as he held up his pinky finger.

“Promise. You’re my best friend.” Jia Hua crossed her fingers with the young boy and left the orphanage home she’d been living in for 6 years. She was sad to leave Grandma Popo and Tank but happier to finally stay somewhere, where she could call ’home’.

“Jia Hua.” Mrs. Cheng called.

“Yes?” Jia Hua asked politely.

“From now on, is it ok if we call you Ella?” she was confused. How did Mrs. Cheng find out about her nickname ‘Ella’? “I over heard your friend Tank, calling you ‘Ella’ and I think it’s sounds good on you, is it ok if we call you ‘Ella’?” She thought for a while and then smiled.

“Only if I get to call Mr. and Mrs. Cheng ‘mom’ and ‘dad’, only then, you can call me ‘Ella’. Deal?” Mrs. Cheng smiled.

“Deal.”

---

“Ella we’re home.” Mrs. Cheng slightly shook her adopted daughter’s shoulder.

“I’m tired mommy.” Mrs. Cheng smiled.

“Ok, why don’t mommy carry you?” Ella nodded her head. “Andrew, honey, can you grab Ella’s stuff from the trunk, please?” Mrs. Cheng asked her husband. He nodded and followed his wife into the big mansion.

“Mr. and Mrs. Cheng, you guys are back early.” Pong said as he opened the door to the couple.

“Well, things went better than I thought.” Mrs. Cheng replied. “Honey, I’m going to take Ella up to her room.” Andrew nodded.

“Pong, where’s Nanny?”

“She’s in the kitchen preparing your lunch.”

“would you gather up some of the workers and tell them to help out Nanny? And make sure she makes enough food for everyone in the house. We’re going to have a small party for our new arrival.”

---

Ella was enjoying herself like any 6 year old. “Dad, where’s mom? She said that she had a gift for me.”

Ella asked as she looked at her father with sad eyes. Andrew thought for a while.

“She’s probably upstairs, I’m going to go check on her. You stay here and open up the rest of the presents ok?” Ella nodded as Andrew jogged up the stairs.

He opened the door to the master bedroom finding his wife lying on the floor.

“Sheng?! Honey, what happened?” He lifted her off the floor on to the bed. Sheng clutched her stomach and groaned in pain.

“What’s wrong?” She couldn’t speak, the pain over took her body.

Without thinking Andrew called an ambulance, and within minuets, Ella’s first day home became her last day seeing her adopted mother.
