"Are you sure you are alright?" My friend Yunji asked as she put her hand on mine, concern pouring out of her eyes. Yunji was one of my best friends in Busan National University, and we still kept in touch constantly even after I dropped out.
We were in a lively coffee shop near my house.
This was our favorite place to go and chill every time our lectures were finished. But I came here less and less now that I was practically working 24/7.
"Yea." I forced a smile, not wanting her to worry.
"If you say so." She let go of my head, "But if you need anyone to talk to, I'm here for you anytime."
"Thank you, Yunji." I smiled.
"Here is the panini you ordered." The waiter, Jihoon, whom I got familiar with as I came here so often, said and set down the plate with the delicious-smelling food.
"Thank you, Jihoon."
"Anytime." He paused, then said, "How come you don't come here as often nowadays?"
I sighed and shook my head, "It's just I haven't been having much time since I work all the time to support my family."
He notice my bleakness as I mentioned my family, "I'm sorry you've got it so hard, Yerin. I hope everything gets better soon."
"Thank you. I hope so too."
He smiled, and left.
"Anyway," Yunji said, "Do you want to visit Minjun?" She still thought that Minjun and I have a great relationship as I was never brave enough to tell her the truth, and Minjun used to threatened me to act happy in front of everyone whenever I was with him.
"No." I said a bit too quickly.
"Oh, okay." She was slightly surprised, but seemed to have shrugged it off. "Ah!" Yunji looked at her phone, "My lecture starts soon! I have to go." She collected her things and put the pay on the table, "Are you sure you don't want me to walk you back to your apartment?"
"Yes. Don't be late for you lecture." I waved.
"Bye!" She waved and stepped out of the coffee shop.
I quickly finished up my food and payed with Yunji's money. I left the shop after saying goodbye to Jihoon. My thoughts wondered back to Jimin, who claimed to be the most wanted murderer in Korea right now, who also happened to be my savior. Was he really what he claims to be? The famous Busan Killer?
I gathered from what he said that he had been stalking me even before I left my university, since I dropped out only after my parents divorced. But why me? Why did take interest in a normal girl that did not stand out in a crowd at all, rather than some ulzzangs or celebrities?
I soon reached my apartment. I took the lift that made a strange noise every five seconds and reached the fourth floor of the old building that was almost falling apart. I reached my apartment, of which the number was 444. It was the only reason I could afford it as the the number four was considered unlucky in Korea, let along three of them in a row.
I took my keys from my pocket, and inserted it into the door lock. My eyebrows furrowed when I realized that it was unlocked. I cautiously turned the knob, and slowly opened the door. There was no-one that I could see inside. I still did't let down my guard. I trudged deeper into my apartment.
After walking around every corners of my apartment, which only consisted of a small kitchen, an even smaller toilet, and a bedroom, I noticed nothing out of the ordinary. Hm, maybe I just forgot to lock the door when I went out, which was very likely considering the state of distraught I was in the last time I exited this apartment.
But suddenly, my eye caught something. A yellow sticky note, which I was a hundred percent sure that I didn't put there, was on top of my bedside table. I scuttled to it and picked it up. On it, written in a black ink pen with neat handwriting, were some words.
'Hope you got home safe - J'
My hand flew up to my mouth as I realized that it was Jimin who put it there, meaning he must have broke into my house when I was at the cafe with Yunji.
A thought suddenly came to me. I fished my phone out and scrolled thought my contacts. And it was as I thought, Jimin had put his number into my phone. I noticed that it was not a Korean number. I tapped on that number and it began ringing.
"I am impressed Yerin," Jimin's voice said, "You found it a lot quicker than I expected."
"How the hell did you get in my apartment?" I got straight to the point.
"I stole our Minjunie's key to your apartment." He said.
"You!" Of course he'd find a way into my apartment! But... wasn't this technically a good thing now that Minjun did't have the key to my apartment, and he can't just come in here anymore? Aish, what am I thinking! The key to my apartment is now in a murderer's hand! Isn't this worst? But for some reason, a part of me would rather Jimin have it than Minjun.
"You must be tired after all these," Jimin said, "Have a good rest tonight. I'll be seeing you soon."
"Wait what!? What do you mean-" Before I could finish my sentence, the phone was cut off.
