I involuntarily sighed as I took a sip of my latte.
"Yerin, what's wrong?" Yunji asked. We were back in Jihoon's coffee shop again in the afternoon after my morning shift in a shop.
I sighed again. "Yunji, do you have a boyfriend?"
"No, not at the moment. Why?"
"I don't know...."
"Look," She set her cup of coffee down, "I know something is off between you and Minjun. I've been noticing it for a while."
My head shot up to look at her, "You have?"
"Yes, did you really think I wouldn't notice a change in my best friend? You act differently around Minjun every time, and not in a good way."
I laughed pathetically, "I should have told you what's been happening shouldn't I?'
"Yes. Now go on, spill it."
"Minjun... he has been abusing me..."
She sighed, "Yerin, you really should have told me the first time he did it! I would have gone and slapped him right away and told him to stay away form you! Why did you keep it all in?"
"I- I thought I was in love with him... And he threatened to kill me if I told anyone about it..."
"Aish you pabo! You should have gone to the police right away!" She held her head as if she was going to go mad over my stupid action.
"Haha, yea I should have should't I..." I thought back to what happened yesterday at the police station... and what happened afterward.
She sighed again, "Anyway, have you thought of what you are going to do now?"
Truthfully I haven't. My head had been so occupied by Jimin that I haven't even thought of what to do with Minjun.
"I think you should go and confront Minjun. Running away won't help." Yunji said.
"What? No! I don't want to see Minjun!" I exclaimed just a bit too loudly, turning a few heads form the neighboring tables.
"Yerin, you can't run away forever. You should cut your ties with him face to face, one and for all. And if he wouldn't just get a constraint order on him."
"...Fine." I said reluctantly.
-
There I was with Yunji, in the Busan Hospital, talking to a doctor about Minjun.
"He just woke up yesterday." The doctor said, "But he refused to say anything, not even to the police. But if you are friends of his, you can go and see him, and he might say something."
We bowed the doctor thank you and went to the room in the Intense Care Unit that Minjun was in.
"Ready?" Yunji asked as she was about to open the door.
I nodded, but I wasn't really. Yunji opened the door and went in anyway. I followed her in and saw that Minjun, very unlike what I remember him to be like, was lying stilly on the hospital bed. There were many tubes and lines connecting him to different machines, and he had many casts on him.
