I promised to not bring Jimin into this, yet I had failed. I failed him. I got him kill. It was all my fault.
"Yerin," my mother whispered. She bent down and tried to give me a hug but I pushed her away aggressively and shouted, "Fuck off!"
She flinched but stayed crouched. "Yerin, it is good that he's gone. You'd have had no future with him. I love you as your mother, I know what's best for you." She once again tried to comfort me by laying a hand on my shoulder.
I parried it away. With my raised hand, I slapped her on her face. The crisp sound resonated around the room. "You dare to call yourself my mother!?"
"No, Yerin, please don't hate me..."
I tuned out whatever she was saying as my eyes focused on Yun. That face, the face of Jimin's murderer. I saw red. I abruptly charged at him with a scream and tried to punch him in the jaw, but the men surrounding us immediately restrained me. I struggled in their grasps as I bawled in despair. "I'll kill you! You fucker! I'll- I'll-" I couldn't finish my threat as I broke down in a fit of tears.
"I'm sorry," Yun said simply.
"No, you're not!" I yelled. "Why would you do this?"
"Think of it as revenge from all his victims," he replied. "They did lose their lives to the Busan Killer."
"I don't care about their lives! I only care about Jimin's!"
"Yerin..." My mother muttered in shock.
"This girl is the same," Yun said.
My mother's brows furrowed. "The same as what?"
"The same as that Busan Killer."
"What are you saying...?" She asked.
"He has instilled the killer mindset in her. We can't let her live."
"No!" Mum exclaimed. "Yerin is my daughter! You promised not to hurt her!"
"I didn't know she was this type of person." Yun started approaching me but Mum stepped in between us.
"You are not laying a single finger on my daughter," she stated firmly.
Yun paused in his track. "I thought we were a team? Didn't you say you'd support me through thick and thin? We even d-"
"I hate fucked you once."
Yun's eyes narrowed. "Hate fuck?"
"Who are you to bring this 'divine justice' to my daughter? She hasn't killed anyone in her life."
"You..."
"I will not let you hurt Yerin," she hissed through her teeth.
I looked at her in confusion. She was protecting me from Yun? I thought-
Suddenly a loud clunk echoed in the room. We all turned our attention towards the source of the noise: the door. After a few of that same sound, the door was shot open. A bunch of men in black poured in from the door and engaged in a shoot out with the men Yun hired. I ducked to the floor as the men holding me freed their hands to get their guns. I held my head with my eyes closed until the shooting stopped.
I carefully looked up to see who had won. All of the men Yun hired were dead on the floor. However, quite a few of those men that just came in were dead. Only two were left standing, and....
Jimin.
Jimin was there. I scrambled off the floor and sprinted towards that man whom I thought was dead. I jumped into his embrace and squeezed as hard as I could. He was real. He was here. He was alive.
"Jimin," I whispered his name as I took in the image of his heavenly face. "I thought- How are you-"
"I'm not stupid enough to fall into Yun's trap," Jimin said, glancing at my necklace.
"Then who went to that room?" I asked, still in shock.
"Yoongi sent men there just to make sure."
"Jimin, I- I'm so happy you're not dead," I said, feeling myself tearing up once again. "I love you so much."
"I know," Jimin replied with a small smile.
"Alright, alright," Yun spoke up, "enough of this teary stuff. Welcome, Busan Killer."
I groaned when I realised he wasn't dead. I looked back at where I ran from and saw that he was holding Mum in front of him as a shield. Mum was unhurt as well.
"What do you want?" Jimin questioned.
"You know what I want," Yun answered from across the room. "I want you to pay for your crime."
"Why should I?"
"Why should you? You murdered more than twenty innocent people in cold blood. They didn't even do anything yet their lives were so suddenly taken away, for fun! You not only took away their lives, you ruined all those that loved them. You are a monster. Don't you feel guilty?"
"No. For all I care they can all die."
Yun huffed in disbelief, "Yerin, why would you love this monster?"
"He is better than you!" I said.
"You have a sick mind, Yerin. He is a cold-blooded psychopath. Imagine if one of his victims was someone you loved. You would never forgive him."
I only huffed and hugged Jimin harder in response.
"See," Yun leaned down to talk in Mum's ear, "she is a sociopath."
"She is my daughter," she stated.
He sighed. "Alright, I'm getting down to business." He held up his own phone and played the exact same recording that he played to me in that parking lot to Jimin.
"If I exposed this to the world, you would not be able to get away with your crime any longer. I also have recordings of Min Yoongi and Oh Eunjung talking about the crime of FIRE"
"Or I could just kill you right now," Jimin said.
Yun smirked. "I have the audio backed up and on a timed program. If I don't stop it, it will send the audio to every news agency in Korea." He clicked around on his phone again and a big digital clock with red numbers and black background filled the screen. There was only a quarter of an hour left and was ticking down fast. "If you kill me, it will be the end of you, and the downfall of FIRE."
"What do you want with this?" I asked.
"I'm not finished yet. I also have an audio cut so that it seems like Yerin is the Busan Killer. So you have two choices," Yun said to Jimin. "One, you kill me, and the entire audio is released so the whole Korea can see you and FIRE's crime, or two, I stop this with the condition that I release the Yerin audio, so she will take the blame for the Busan Killings again"
I looked at Jimin and he was just pointing his gun at Yun, his finger lingering over the trigger.
"Choose," Yun reiterated, "Yerin's life, or yours and FIRE's?"
