Custody

A police had driven me to a detention center as I was now officially in custody. I was thrust into jail there used for remand detainment of suspected criminals after being told to change into some prisoner clothes. The cell was not dissimilar to the ones seen in movies. It was grimy, over-simply furnished, and the bed was a slab of metal hanging off the concrete wall.

I gingerly went over to sit on the 'bed' and pulled my legs in to curl up. I wonder how long I'd have to stay here? According to Yoongi's plan I'd be out soon, and from what I saw it seemed like it was going well.

My thoughts drifted back the day when we formulated the plan.

"Now, time to formulate the plan," Yoongi said, turning to face us in his leather chair.

"Hyung, what do you have in mind?" Jungkook asked.

"We're going to frame that girl as the Busan Killer."

My brows furrowed. "Frame Nam Seoyun? Why?"

"She dares to make demands from me. Framing her takes two birds with one stone: punishing her and washing off your suspicion." Yoongi explained.

"How are we going to do that though?" I asked.

"We need to first show the police and public that you're not the Busan Killer. What better way to do that than having a Busan Killer murder when Yerin is under arrest."

Jimin pushed me back. "Yerin will not be arrested." His voice was serious.

"Do you want her to wash off her suspicion or not?" Yoongi asked rhetorically.

"I will not let her be arrested," Jimin said through gritted teeth.

"Too bad, this is happening." Yoongi's said with a smile, then turned to me, "Yerin, just walk to the city center and make sure you're seen by as many people as possible, then there'll be a lot of media coverage." He then looked at the killer beside me, "Jimin, when Yerin is arrested, kill someone, make it obvious that it's a Busan Killer kill."

"How do the police tell if it's a Busan Killer kill or not?" I asked the question that I've been curious about for quite a while but never got around to asking.

"I cut a tally of whatever number kill it is somewhere on the skin of the victim," Jimin said, "And I take one thing from each of them. I took the keys to your old apartment from Minjun, remember?"

"Great, you do that," Yoongi said, "Now, how do we frame that girl..."

"I can find out her address," Jimin said to the grey-haired man, slightly reluctantly, "I can put the things I take from the victims into wherever she lives, and I'll find a hair of hers or something and drop it at the crime scene."

"Great!" Yoongi smiled as if we just made a normal plan for an outing or something, not a plan to murder and frame someone.

"Alright... But what am I going to say when the police question me?" I asked.

"Hm," Yoongi thought about it, "You can't mention Jimin because we can't have him under the police's radar. If they ask you about who you were living with say Jungkook. He has a proper registered job in Blaze, so mentioning him should be fine."

"Yoongi, should I tell them about you if they ask?"

"Yes, that's fine, they know who I am anyway."

"But..." I looked down at my feet when I thought back over the whole plan, "that means an innocent person has to die for me..."

"That's how it works in this world, Yerin," Yoongi said to me, "Either you kill, or you are killed."

I sighed heavily and closed my eyes, drifting off to sleep. But after what felt like a second I was abruptly woken up by a shouting voice.

"Get up all of you! Time for dinner." A woman in uniform yelled, banging a stick on some jail bars as she walked past them.

I glanced out the tiny barred window on the wall of my cell and realised that it was already nightfall. Along with the other inmates, I was escorted to the dining area. I grabbed a plastic tray and got into a line for the food. Suddenly a few woman shoved in front of me and gave me dirty looks. I didn't want to cause any trouble so I shifted my gaze to my feet and let them. So all those bullying in prisons that you see in movies are true?

After the person serving food scooped some sloppy food onto my tray I went to sit on an empty table. It was obvious that there were cliques, as the others automatically went to sit in certain places.

Suddenly a few large woman threw their trays on the table where I was sitting and sat around me in an intimidating manner.

"Hey Newbie," the apparent leader of the clique said, "What are you in here for?"

"I-I-"

"Speak clearly you idiot!" Another woman next to me poked me on my head really hard.

I glanced around and saw that the others averted their gazes, and the people in charge hadn't seemed to notice yet.

"Drugs? Stealing?" The leader said, leaning closer to me to assert authority.

I looked down at my food. "...I'm suspected of murder."

One of her tattooed-on eyebrows raised. "Oh? Who did you kill?"

"Um..-"

"Stop taking and eat!" One of the guards finally noticed an shouted to us.

I sighed a breath of relief when the gang of women backed off a little bit but they stilled stayed on my table and ate, occasionally throwing me evil glares. After I somehow managed to force down the mash that was the food, we were given half an hour of recreational time in which we could hang out in a room with a TV and a pool table. I went and sat down in front of the TV since I didn't know how to play pool. It was on a news channel.

"Welcome to Korea's evening news. Our headline today is about the Busan Killer suspect, Song Yerin. She has been taken into custody this afternoon" A slightly shaky video of me standing in the middle of the city facing off with the police, seemingly taken by some passerby on his phone, started playing on the TV. The male news anchor then went on, "It has not been confirmed by the police yet, but multiple videos have been uploaded to the internet depicting the wanted Song Yerin being arrested by the police. We will update you on this matter as soon as we receive any more information..."

The person who was sitting near me glanced at me with wide eyes. I stared back with narrowed ones. She started cowering away as she muttered, "P-please don't hurt me! I'm only in here because I stole a few things..."

I forced an insincere smile onto my face, but it only seemed to scare her more as she almost fell off her chair trying to scuttle away from me. I sighed and decided to ignore them. After watching the rest of the news, everyone was escorted back to their jail cell.

As I thought back to what I had just watched on TV, I thought it was a bit strange how there was no news about the murder that Jimin was supposed to commit according to plan. Did he not do it? Did something go wrong? I was going to get out of this jail very soon...right?
