Yun let go of Mum and nodded towards his phone with a smirk. "Ten minutes."
"That's ten whole minutes to torture you," Jimin said, the murderous smile never leaving his face.
"You-"
Jimin walked with confidence towards that man and he involuntarily backed away. I would've too if Jimin was walking towards me like that; I could physically feel the dark menace radiating off him. He pushed my mother aside and roughly grabbed hold of the collar of Yun's white shirt. Yun tried to push Jimin off but Jimin had him firmly in his grasp.
"What do you think y-"
Jimin interrupted him by holding the sharp edge of the knife in front of his throat. "Stop the program."
"You can't kill me," Yun said. "If you do no one can stop it."
"I can't kill you. But I can hurt you."
Heart-wrenching screams immediately followed as Jimin stabbed the knife into Yun's shoulder, slowly and painfully dragging it downwards.
"Stop the timer, and DO NOT release Yerin's audio."
"Stop, Stop!" Yun screamed. "S-Stop or I- I- will release- the audio- now!"
"No you won't," said Jimin as he quickly slashed Yun in his hand just above the wrist causing all his tendons to snap. His hand became useless and it dropped the phone. Jimin kicked it towards me and I quickly picked it up. I clicked the home button only to be presented with a default Samsung background.
"It's locked!" I shouted to Jimin. Hearing that, Jimin shoved Yun so he lost his balance and dragged him towards me. He forcefully pressed the struggling man's thumb on the phone...but it didn't work.
"Unlock it!" Jimin roared in Yun's face.
Barely forcing a smile, Yun said, "I won't."
Jimin stabbed him in his uninjured arm and created another massive cut down all the way down to his elbow with blood gushing out. Yun's whole body was violently shaking due to the pain he endured in that short amount of time.
"Unlock it!" Jimin commanded once again, but it seemed like Yun was fading in and out of his consciousness. He was going in shock.
"Yun!" I shouted with burning urgency. "Please, you have to stay awake!"
"Stay the fuck awake!" Jimin echoed my words, just slightly more forcefully.
I didn't know how much time was left as the clock wasn't on the screen anymore. All I knew was that if we didn't get him to unlock the phone and stop the program in time, the whole world would know Jimin's and FIRE's crime. That could not happen.
Yun's chuckled chilled me to my bones. He uttered with his voice barely above a whisper, "I won't." Then his body went limp. He fainted.
Jimin dropped him, his chest still heaving from shouting so much. Our gaze locked when we realised what this meant: Jimin and FIRE were doomed.
"Fuck," I whispered as I walked into another hug with Jimin. Was this the last time? I thought of the very real possibility that this was the end of FIRE too. I felt bad. That was the success that Yoongi and Eunjung spent years on, yet it would be crushed in one day partly because of me. I could not imagine them two in jail. They suited the luxurious life. This would take effect on thousands, if not tens of thousands of people, all those FIRE members. Thinking of all the things that were crumbling down just like that, I couldn't breathe. The tightness in my throat felt like a pair of hands around me, choking the life out of everything I held dear.
"Yerin," Mum said, reminding me of her presence in this room.
"Go away Mum!" I shouted back.
"Jimin," she walked towards us two. "I had doubts whether you really loved my daughter. You know what they say after all: psychopaths don't love. But I guess you are an anomaly."
"What are you saying it for!?" I yelled through the tears that were beginning to fall. "It's over! Jimin will be convicted and FIRE will fall..."
"No," a smiled surface on Mum's face as she shook her head. "It's far from over."
She took out her phone from her pocket and dialed a number. "Hi, yes. Do it now. You are almost here? Good."
Jimin suddenly slapped the phone out of her hand and pointed the knife at her. "What kind of mother are you?"
"The kind that wants to protect her daughter," she replied.
Jimin scoffed, "Protecting?" He raised his knife as if about to stab her and end that joke of a mother once and for all when suddenly, an unexpected voice shouted from the entrance of the basement.
"Stop! Stop! Executive Park, don't do it!"
"Taehyung?" I muttered in shock seeing his face. Why was he here? Did Yoongi tell him to come?
He ran towards us and stood in between Jimin and Mum. He held out his arms protecting Mum and said, "Executive Park, please listen to me and don't kill Miss Jung!"
"Taehyung," Mum said with a smile.
They knew each other!? "Taehyung? You know my Mum!?"
"Yes. Miss Jung and I... Um..."
"He has been working for me," Mum answered for him, stepping out from behind Taehyung as she saw Jimin lowering his blade.
"What!? Taehyung... is this true?" I questioned.
A goofy smile appeared on his face. "Ha...yes. Sorry for not telling you."
Thinking about Taehyung, I was suddenly reminded of Yun's timed program. "Shit! What about that audio! The program is going to release it!"
"Don't worry," Mum said, "Taehyung stopped it already." Taehyung widened his bright smile.
"Taehyung, how did I know I can trust you?" I asked. "Afterall, you lied to Bludhood, and you lied to FIRE. So you could also be lying to me."
"I will show you," Mum said. She held out a hand for Yun's phone and I gave it to her after a moment's doubt. "I know his password." She entered it and it indeed unlocked, returning to the screen with the clock. She turned it towards me and Jimin so we could see. The clock was stuck on 3:09. It wasn't counting down anymore.
"Why? Why are helping me? And why did you not help me earlier? We could have saved all these troubles," I said as I looked around at almost twenty unmoving bodies on the floor.
"I want to protect my dear daughter," Mum explained. "I didn't know what type of person Jimin was. He could have been the psychopath the Yun tried so hard to convince me he was, so I needed him to prove himself; to prove that he was right for you," she glanced at Jimin. "And he did prove himself more than capable of being your significant other in this vicious world."
"Mum," I huff in surprise and confusion, "you went through all these, sacrificed all these people, just to test my boyfriend?"
She shrugged with a smile. "Basically. I kind of just... went along with Yun's plans."
That was...rather extreme on my mother's part. Normally parents give those responsibility talks to the boyfriend before prom or something, not gamble the life of an entire underworld empire with it. And I thought my mum was an oblivious, happy-go-lucky woman. I realised she might have been quite the opposite.
"Yerin, I should tell you something," Mum continued. "I've always had ties to the underworld, even before I met your father. I've tried my whole life to keep you away from that world, and the wildcard called Jimin came out of nowhere. So when I heard you joined FIRE I knew I had to do something. That's why I sent someone to watch over you."
My gaze shifted to the person whom I knew she was referring to. "Taehyung, you have been a triple spy all along?"
"Yep..." Taehyung replied with a hint of proudness in his voice.
