Two weeks later, I take a pregnancy test while Ayden is at work. I anxiously await the results, and jump in joy when I see the test says pregnant. I schedule an appointment with the doctor, and go to my appointment later that afternoon. I have blood work done to see if I am, and the doctor says it could take a few minutes. I wait patiently, but can't help getting a little excited.
The doctor comes back in the room, a sad smile on her face. "I'm sorry to tell you this, but the at home pregnancy test gave a false positive."
My heart drops into my stomach. I smile weakly and whisper, "Thank you for seeing me today." I leave the room and pay as I leave the building. I go home and manage to seem normal, not wanting Ayden to question me.
I tell him we should keep trying and we do. A month later, I take another test and again it is positive. Again I go to the doctor. I go home, trying to act as normal as possible once more.
"How was your day?" Ayden mumbles against my lips as he greets me.
"I have some news for you." I say, kissing him back enthusiastically.
"About what?"
"Whether we should keep trying to have a baby or not." I explain.
Ayden pulls away from me as if I have slapped him. He looks excited, but also cautious. "Well?"
"I'm pregnant!" I exclaim unable to contain my excitement any longer.
Ayden stands before in shock. When the spell is broken, he picks me and swings me around. "I'm going to be a dad!"
I laugh and kiss him. I am set down gently on the floor, and then Ayden runs around the room screaming at the top of his lungs.
"IM GOING TO BE A DAD!"
I can't stop smiling no matter how much I try. I laugh at random times, unable to shake this extreme joy I have. Ayden and I have trouble sleeping that night. The next morning, even though we are exhausted, Ayden gets dressed for work and I get out of bed, not having to get ready yet.
I take off my sleep shirt to put on a bra an causal t-shirt, but Ayden stops and turns me to face him. He kisses me, then he gets on his knees to his my stomach.
A second later, I get out of Ayden's arms and race to the bathroom. I barely make it to the toilet before I puke. Ayden holds my hair back for me while I finish. I flush and go to the sink to brush my teeth. When that is done, I moan, "I was wondering when that would happen."
He rubs my back. "I'm sorry Alexia, but we are going to be parents!" He reminds me.I have to grin at that. "I am so excited! I don't think even morning sickness can dampen my happy mood."
Ayden gives my a long passionate kiss. "I have to leave for work. Will you be okay at school and home for a while by yourself?"
I nod and giggle. "Of course."
I get to school and feel nauseous, but I know I won't get sick. Halfway through class, I feel my iPhone vibrate in my pocket, so I take it out and I see a message from Ayden. 'Are you okay? How's class?'
'I'm fine. Nauseous, but fine. Oh, and class is boring, but I'll live. I have to go. Teacher coming. Hates texting.'
'I love you.'
As I read Ayden's last text, my stomach get butterflies in it. 'I love you too.' I text before I put my phone away. I have a smile on all through class, Ayden's text replaying in my head over and over like it is the first time he's said "I love you" to me.
