AURORA OPENED HER EYES, A wave of tiredness washing over her as the sunlight hit her face. She was leaning on Rick's shoulder, a groggy feeling attacking her all at once. It wasn't until Rick smiled at her that she realised she had fallen asleep against him. To be fair, it was one of the best naps she had had in a while.
Sleep was becoming harder for her. Not because of the apocalypse, or the lack of beds, but because of the lack of medication. With her bipolar, manic episodes give her insomnia. This is usually combated by the right dose of lithium, but having to ration her medication was making things worse.
"Your shoulder is comfy," Aurora complimented, awkwardly patting Rick's shoulder.
"I'm glad you like my shoulder," Rick smiled, shuffling over so Aurora had more room.
"You should of woke me," Aurora mumbled, rubbing her eyes. The sun was just beginning to set over the horizon, but it was still bright, signinally she hadn't been asleep for long.
"You were exhausted," Rick shrugged, following Glenn's red sports car, "and besides, you kinda remind me of Carl. Just a bit."
"Carl? Your son?" she asked, confused.
"He'd always fall asleep in the car," he explained, turning a corner and driving down a rocky path. Aurora wasn't expecting to be met with an actual group of surviving people. They weren't just surviving either, but thriving. The tents littered the surroundings, along with an RV, which looked well stocked. Glenn had gotten out of his car and was being verbally abused by a tall man with slightly curly hair. It seemed like an old man was trying to break up the conflict, but Aurora tore away from this as Morales appeared by the truck window.
"Come meet everyone," he encouraged, opening the truck door and jumping out. Rick gave Aurora an uneasy look, which Aurora matched. During the journey, T-Dog had mentioned that Merle had a younger brother named Daryl. Whilst his temper wasn't as bad, the news of Merle being left on the roof would cause conflict among the group, and conflict was the last thing Aurora wanted right now.
Aurora opened the door and leapt out, walking around the truck to stand by Rick. He was still the only person she could confidently trust, so it only seemed right that she stand by him.
"Amy!" Andrea shouted, running over to embrace a blonde haired girl, who Aurora assumed to be her younger sister. Morales ran over to a woman and two kids, who hugged him tightly. This all made Aurora feel more alone, and thoughts of her father were swarming back to her, but she shook them off.
"You are a welcomed sight," an old man spoke
"How'd y'all get out of there anyway?" another man asked, rubbing his head.
"New people," Glenn shrugged, catching Aurora's eye, "they helped us."
"Come say hello!" Morales said again, beckoning them over. Rick hesitantly walked over towards the group, making sure that Aurora was close behind him. She knew that Rick was on the edge too, which was reassuring for the most part.
As they neared towards the new group, Aurora noticed a thin woman with brown hair stood with a young boy. She instantly recognised them as being Lori and Carl, and obviously Rick did, too, as his mouth dropped. Aurora stepped out of the way quickly as Carl sprinted forward, crashing into his father, hugging him tightly. Lori followed after, her eyes wide with surprise. And Aurora continued to step away, feeling more alone than ever.
