THE DECEASED
fifteen | ❝Carl was fucking shot?❞

"DID YOU-" AURORA ASKED, STOPPING in her tracks and glancing around. "Did you hear a gun shot?"

Glenn shook his head, confused. "No," he replied, before smiling, "hearing things again?"

Aurora rolled her eyes and smiled to herself, but quickly stopped when Lori mentioned that she heard it too.

"Why one? Why only one?" Lori asked. Anxiety had painted her face.

"Maybe they took down a walker." Daryl said.

"Please don't patronise me," Lori sighed, "You know Rick wouldn't use a gun. Or Shane. They'd do it quietly."

"Shouldn't they have caught up with us by now?" Carol asked, only adding fuel to the nerves of Lori. Aurora watched the two women. She could practically see their minds jumping to all kinds of conclusions.

"There's nothing we can do about it anyway." Daryl said. "Can't run around these woods chasing echoes."

Aurora continued looking around. She knew it was probably nothing, but Lori was right. Neither Rick, or Shane, would've used a gun to take down a walker. Maybe they let Carl shoot the gun? Surely not.

"What do we do?" Lori asked.

"Work our way back to the highway." Daryl sighed, as if it were obvious, "Can't do much else."

"Where would you go?" Glenn asked Aurora as they walked through the forest towards the highway. They had been searching for what felt like forever before Daryl decided to call it a day. "Anywhere in the world."

"I don't know," Aurora said, shrugging, "is the world still ending? Or is this pre apocalypse?"

"Pre apocalypse," Glenn chuckled, "or maybe post. Come on, where you going?"

Aurora thought for a moment, stepping over a fallen tree and pushing branches out of the way. She loved conversations like this with Glenn. It made life feel almost normal.

"Somewhere in Europe," Aurora replied, "maybe Greece. What about you?"

"Well, I've never been to Korea. Parents couldn't afford it. Seems like I probably should, you know," he replied, smiling at Aurora.

"Maybe we could go together," Aurora said, before quickly adding, "I mean, you know, it would be fun."

"It would be fun," Glenn agreed, smiling at her. Aurora felt that same heat creeping across her cheeks. She looked around, once again hoping it wasn't obvious. Of course she would act like this during an apocalypse. Aurora knew she had a habit of growing too attached to people, but this felt different.

"How much farther?" Lori asked, breathing heavily

"Not much. Maybe 100 yards." Daryl replied. Aurora glared at Andrea, who had walked into a spider's web and was brushing down her clothes. As if out of no-where, a walker appeared and grabbed at Andrea, who screamed and fell down.
