THE DECEASED
thirteen | ❝guess we're grave diggers, then❞

AURORA SAT NEXT TO ANDREA as the RV continued down the road. Andrea who was still alive. Andrea who Dale had convinced to live. There was a big part of Aurora that felt guilty for not saving Andrea. Maybe it was the weird saviour complex she had, or maybe it was because she felt like she needed to save everyone. Either way, there was a guilt eating her up.

"Oh jeez..." Dale sighed. Aurora stood up and leaned against the back of Glenn's seat, flicking his hat forward. An over turned bus lay ahead, surrounded by an abundance of abandoned cars. They had been driving for a while, and honestly, it was a miracle they had gotten this far without a blockage like this.

"See a way through?" Dale asked Daryl, who had driven next to the RV on his motorcycle. He nodded and sped off, leading the RV carefully down the road.

"Uh, maybe we should just go back." Glenn suggested, holding a paper map, "There's an interstate bypass-"

"We can't spare the fuel." Dale tutted, cutting Glenn off in mid sentence.

"Can we get through here?" Aurora asked, resting her head on top of Glenn's head from behind. The road seemed to be getting narrower between each car that laid sprawled across the road.

The RV made a choking sound, and jolted forward before coming to a stop. Aurora furrowed her eyebrows and looked at Dale, who's nostrils were flared in annoyance. He stood up quickly and jumped out, prompting everyone to follow.

"I said it, didn't I?" Dale said, popping the hood. "A thousand times. Dead in the water."

"Problem, Dale?" Rick asked, appearing behind the group.

"Just a small matter of being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no hope off-" Dale began, however Daryl cut him off.

"If you can't find a radiator hose here... There's a whole bunch of stuff we can find." Daryl said, popping the hood of a nearby car and rummaging through the parts. None of this sounded like English to Aurora, but then again, she didn't know anything about cars. She could barely drive one.

"I don't know how I feel about this," Lori said, looking around at the group as Daryl rummaged through car after car. "This is a graveyard."

"Guess we're grave diggers then," Aurora responded, dully.

Aurora swung a car door open and pierced the skulls of two dead walkers, just in case. Reaching over the bodies, she grabbed a small bag and swung it over her shoulder. In the backseat of the car was a pile of comics she thought would entertain Carl and Sophie. In the next car, she found random clothes bundled up, knowing they'd fit someone. She felt guilty as she kept looking through more bags, thinking about how this belonged to someone, but that guilt wore off in the next bag.

Aurora reached in and grabbed something big and cold. She yanked her hand out and stared at it, thinking she had touched blood. Nothing was there. Confused, she reached in again, wrapping her hand around the object and pulling it out. A dildo.

"Jeez," Aurora said to herself, dropping it onto the floor, "the apocalypse starts and this is what you take?"

Aurora looked around, about to leave, before smiling and picking it up. She figured it would be funny to throw it at Daryl. She tucked it beneath the comics and headed further down the road.
