Gracie's POV
Holey Ice Cream Parlor
"Can I say something?" Anthony asked, staring at me as we stood in line.
"Wait, you pay rent? You're a kid" Jasmine says, almost in it frenzy. I knew what Anthony was going to say. We finish each other sentences, How cute.
"I'm 15, not a kid. The people I live with. They need money. So I make the money, I stay in their house." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Your family? You said the people I live with." Jasmine was very practicular on finding out the truth, She did so by listening to choice words.
"Anthony? 2 scoops of double chocolate chip, 1 scoop of birthday cake ice cream, and 1 scoop of cookies and cream." The Creamery worker yelled at loud.
We had an almost look going, the 3 of us grabbed the ice cream and headed out to the street. The group of us hopped a cap. On the way to my home, in the Bronx, "I'm tired." I curled up by Anthony and laid my head on his shoulder.
"Go to sleep. " Anthony said, soon I was asleep. I slowly drifted to sleep, efficiently, in John Lauren's arms. The hour cab ride was peaceful for what I could tell in my sleep. I was very content as a fan of the hit musical Hamilton.
Anthony's POV
Gracie's Apartment:
"I feel uneasy, " Jasmine wishers. Rubbing her hands up and down the ream of her jeans
"It's the Bronx, in general. I mean I don't feel safe and I'm a grown adult. I fear for the safety, not a huge fan of her being here" I whispered, looking at Gracie, who is 5 feet in front of them.
"I think we need to call Child protective Services, for her safety, " Jas says,
"Alright this is it," Gracie says, standing in front of the apartment. It wasn't a very nice building, either. Broken windows, rusty gates, and chalked off bricks.
We knew what had to be done. My girl, Jazzy walked her up to the door while Anthony called Child Protective Services.
"Lin or I will pick you up for school tomorrow, okay?" Jasmine says, giving her a side hug
"Look, I really appreciate it, but I have been walking myself home for a long time."
"You're one of us now. We care for your safety. I am going to be waiting outside the school gates. Then, we will walk down to the Theatre district and you can stay backstage. It will be lots of fun." Jasmine said
"We haven't known you long, but we take care of our own. That's you. We want to be there for you." Anthony said.
"Thanks, Anthony" Gracie said. After that little comment, she shut the door behind her in a sneaky manner.
"Child protective services, we have a situation" I called on my cell phone, as soon as Gracie shut the door.
Bronx City School:
"Anth, I'm nervous. Do you think she knows about CPS." Jasmine asserted She was all nervous by the fact that she was moving her legs up in down. Patience was not Jasmine's middle name. For a scary situation, She was acting rationally.
"No. The social worker is meeting with her and Lin tonight. She has no idea."
I rubbed the smol of her back, patiently waiting for Gracie's departure from school.Gracie's stride was different. The fun, out-going girl was gone and now to be replaced by a quiet, uptight shadow of a girl. As she walked over to the couple, Jasmine looked up at me and mouthed "don't". I just bit his tongue and tried to forget the sudden change in the character of her.
"Hey, Kiddo. How was school?" I asked. I knew I should change the subject of what happened in the past 24 hours.
"Good, I Guess" Gracie had pulled her beanie far down on her face. Jasmine and I just glared at each other, Jas nodded at me. She signaled the okay for me to interrogate.
"What's on your lip, Gracie?" I ask, pulling the beanie and hair out of her face.
Gracie's face had bruising all along her face. Blue, and light purple across her temples. Her lip was bloody, the lining of her lip was dark red."Oh my god, Gracie. Are you okay?" Jas said Gracie looked shameful not at the situation but at herself.
"What happened to you?" I questioned again, hoping to get an answer. She looked up at me, Her eyes had tears staining in her eyes. I thought to myself: This can't be happening. This was the last straw.
"I got in a fight," Gracie said, on the verge of tears. "I tried to play it off like it was cool-" At that moment, it was like a dream sequence. She stopped mid sentence and slipped into an unconscious state in the middle of the street. Where I grabbed her waist and swung her to where I carried her the whole way back, while Jasmine called Lin.
"She needs a doctor, Lin, ...... I think she will be fine, but...Just get the best one you know...." Was the conversation over the phone the majority of the way there. Once the two brought in an unconscious Gracie, they were rushed into Thomas Kail's office.
"It's going to be okay, Gracie" Lin rubbed her arm, as the doctor examined her. He shed tears and Never left the room. Patiently waiting, Jasmine and I held hands, hoping she would be okay. As she woke up, the doctor revealed it was just some minor injuries.
Lin hugging Gracie, over and over again. Then Jasmine and I had time to hug Gracie, and talk to her.
"Don't do that," Lin said, almost crying, again.
"You scared us, a lot," Jasmine says, Rubbing the smol of Gracie's back.
Thomas knocked on the door, Tommy smiled at Gracie. He stood in front of a tall, skinny, young man who looked no older than 28........
"I do appreciate if my clients weren't beaten up. " The young man chuckled.
"Stephan Sauls!"
Gracie got up and limped over to Stephan to hug him. The hug was genuine, she seemed happy.
