The show was utterly amazing. Every number was breathtaking. The Jack Kelly understudy, Corey Cott, was mind blowing. If that was his understudy, I couldn't imagine what Jeremy was like. Whew! During Tommy's solo "Brooklyn's Here" was breathtaking. He was so adorable and tough in it. Ben Tyler Cook was amazing as Race. I would love to be in that show. I feel so inspired.
After the show, Jeremy took me backstage to meet the director like we talked about.
"Hi!!" Tommy grabbed from behind and swung around to him.
"You were amazing!!"
"Well, thank you Gracie." Tommy said, he was sweating after all of the dancing he had just done.
"I hate to cut this short, but we have to get her auditioned." He put his hand on Tommy's shoulder.
"Oh yea, go get them, Grace." That was the first time anyone had ever called me by my biological name. It felt nice, and mature. I think this could be something great.
"This is Gracie! " Jeremy introduced a man around his fifties. He had blondish grey hair, and looked he still danced regularly. "Gracie, this is Jeff Calhoun. He will be auditioning tonight. "
"I figured we could go up to your dressing room, Jeremy." He said, looking up to him then adjusted his eyes back to me. "Jeremy can play the piano, and you can sing. You have Watch what happens ready?"
I nodded, "Alright, let's get to it." Jeremy said.
Jeff, Jeremy, and I walked up a set of stairs. My nerves started to set in. I was about to audition for a Broadway show. With Hamilton, I felt as if I got the role because I knew Lin.
Jeremy's dressing room was simple. It had hand written notes taped to his mirror. A keyboard sat in the corner, with a chair pressed next to it. His blue couch was the main seating in his room. Jeff sat on the couch, "Whenever you are ready, Gracie."
Jeremy looked started with a few notes on the piano. I took a big breath in and began.
"Write what you know so they say all I know is I don't know what to write or the right way to write it" I did my best to convey my emotions for this song. I really have never wanted another role like i want this one.
"This is big lady don't screw it up this is not some little vaudville I'm reviewing" I pushed the vaudeville note a lot. To my dismay, it sounded effortless and flawless.
"Poor little kids versus rich greedy sourpusses. Ha! It's a cinch it could practically write itself! And let's pray it does. Cause as i may have mentioned I have no clue what I'm doing. Am I insane this is what I've been waiting for. " I took a big breath, while I heard the cords being played. I looked back to Jeff, he seemed pleased and impressed."
"Well that plus the screaming of ten angry editors. A girl! It's a girl! How the hell? Is that even legal? Look, just go and get her! Not only that, there's a story behind the story. " I heard the door creep open. A young women looked in her late twenties. She sat next to Jeff, who greeted her with a smile.
"Thousands of children exploited, invisible
Speak up! Take a stand! And there's someone to write about it!
That's how things get better
Give life's little guys some ink and when it dries just watch what happens
Those kids will live and breath right on the page and once they're center stage
You watch what happens
And who's there with her camera and her pen
As boys turn into men
They'll storm the gates and then just watch what happens when they do!
Picture a handsome, heroically charismatic
Plain spoken know nothing, skirt chasing, cocky little son of a.
Lie down with dogs and you wake up with a raise and a promotion
So, he's a flirt a complete ego maniac
The fact is he's also the face of the strike
What a face
Face the fact, that's a face that could save us all from sinking in the ocean
Like someone said power tends to corrupt in absolute power wait wait?
Corrupts absolutely!
That is genius!
But give me some time I'll be twice as good as that six months from never...Promoted Content
Just look around at the world we're inheriting and think of the one we'll create
Their mistake is they got old!
That is not a mistake we'll be making
no sir! we'll stay young forever
Give those kids and me the brand new century and watch what happens" The young lady had to be Kara Lindsay, the current Katherine Plumber.I was almost done with it. I'm going to survive this audition, "It's David and Goliath do or die. The fight is on and I can't watch what happens but all I know is nothing happens if you just give in. It can't be any worse than how it's been and it just so happens that we just might win! So whatever happens. Let's begin!" I belted as much as I could. I closed my eyes and then reopen them.
Jeremy slowed clapped, then joined by Kara and Jeff. "That was breathtaking." Kara complemented me. The Kara Lindsay said that about me.
"Well, I am making the executive decision to offer you the role of Katherine Plumber." I couldn't even breathe. I did this. I couldn't believe this. "That is if you want it?"
I couldn't even speak, a smile grew ear to ear. Jeremy looked like a proud dad, Kara looked intrigued, and Jeff was just waiting for my answer.
"Yes!!"
