The masked man was famous for his anonymity. No one had ever seen his face, not even those who were close to him. Even as he worked at night, his form was almost invisible. But the man in front of them was real. He wore a black mask that covered every little crevice and crack of his face except his mouth. Even his eyes were obscured by the frequent shadows he was surrounded by.
No one knew who he was, and no one would ever find out. Calissa had tried it once; she had tried to follow him back home. It was when she had first joined the masked man parade and she wanted to see if the masked man was true and if she could really trust and follow him to help the kingdom.
However, a few minutes after her attempt, she had lost him in the dark night. She tried again multiple times, but the conclusion was the same. He was like a ghost that never existed. But then there had been that one bizarre night where she had been successful.
"Thank you all for coming," Simon said from the front.
Simon was the masked man's right-hand man and possible the only who knew his true identity. The masked man nodded at them, saying nothing. In truth, he really had no meaning when these meetings came about, but he was the proof-- the proof that everything they fought for was real and that the masked man wasn't just a legend.
Calissa crossed her arms as Simon's eyes swept through the room, inspecting all that were there. They landed on hers for a moment before passing through. Rudi shifted in his spot and brushed against her leg.
"Your loyalty has proven you all," he continued, "I know some, if not all of you, are surprised by the sudden call and the easy location, but I assure you, this meeting is important to all who support us. However, this is just the first step."
"As you all know the war around has gotten worse. Our king knows of no mercy and innocent are dying without reason. The current war has no meaning. The king is greedy and he just wants to expand his empire without thought to the citizens. Allied countries are backing him up without choice.
"Opposing forces are trying to stop him, but none can succeed. And we suspect that he isn't just after more land, but more power as well-- The Eternal Dark."
