As soon as dawn appeared on the second day, Calissa set out with Rudi on her heels. The sky was still fairly dark and the air still chilly from the night. Rudi stopped on the way out of the cave and drank some water from the river. Calissa yawned, taking a bit out of an apple. Then she tossed the remaining to Rudi, who devoured it wholly.
Now that the day had come and the code was broken, she didn't really know what to do. She thought the answer would have come to her by the morning, but she had hit another wall. The code didn't really reveal much about the new location. It was just another riddle inside a riddle.
She looked at Rudi, who licked himself. He lifted his head to look at her, his blue eyes piercing her own. They were hard and dangerous. His grey coat was sticking out in different ways and his pointed ears twitched, hearing everything around him. She saw his fangs peeking out from under his lip and his tail wagged behind him.
She bent down, extending her arm and he came to her instantly. She patted his head, smoothing down his soft fur. Despite his fierce appearance, he had a golden heart.
By the way of the wolf shall you succeed.
She frowned as she scratched behind his ears. He then moved away from her and began to sniff the ground. Would she have to follow Rudi around like this until they came across another clue? Or would they just walk until the ends of forever?
Let's just keep walking.
Calissa didn't look up as the voice echoed in her head. But when Rudi brushed past her leg, her mouth thinned. Standing up, she sighed and followed him. She didn't particularly like to use her ability, but she had no choice. It was the only thing that could lead her.
He walked towards an unknown section of the forest and Calissa numbly went after him, her eyes open to everything around her. Her surroundings were unfamiliar to her; she had never been here before. She felt vulnerable. The air was strange to her.
She looked at the wolf before her, trying to read his actions, but there was no pattern. He was just walking around, traveling wherever he wanted to. She swore he had more of a wanderlust than she did, and that was saying a lot.
