Hey guys! I finally got a chance to write the next chapter! Sorry, for the delay. Recently, I've been travelling a lot, so I didn't get a chance to write until just recently. I apologize since this chapter doesn't really have much action, but I felt that this needed to happen before everything else in the book.

Anyways, I hope you all are enjoying your summer! And thanks for reading! :D

Calissa sighed as she sat in her bedroll that night. Rubbing her sore muscles, she spread her legs out and groaned as the pain vibrated through her body. She was physically and emotionally exhausted by the training they endured all day. She hung her head in fatigue, her eyelids beginning to droop.

The barracks was unusually quiet. She was all alone, choosing to abandon the noise that was created outside. Bedrolls were placed on the floor messily, fitting about twenty men in a tight space. Small lamps were lighted throughout the space, avoiding the darkness that night would bring.

Calissa sighed, unlacing her boots. Combing her fingers through her dirty locks, she closed her eyes, leaning back on her arms. The scent of sweat and dirt was thick in the air. She clutched her hand around the bedroll, which grinded against the stone floor beneath it. In the distance, she could hear the crickets chirping and a small wind came through the window, flowing through the room.

Footsteps filled the room, making her heart jerk from fright. She turned her head to the entrance and squinted in the darkness, trying to see who it was. The small light from the lamps cast shadows on the walls.

The figure walked across the room, ignoring her. Calissa looked away, but kept glancing at him from the corner of her eye. He stopped across the room and leaned against one of the pillars of stone. In the dim light, she saw that he was looking at her. His gaze bore into her skull, chilling her.

"Oi," he called ou, "Mai, was it?"

Calissa lifted her head, turning towards him. She hadn't expected him to speak. She crossed her legs, "It's Cai."

"What are you doing here?" he asked, completely ignoring her, "The others are at dinner. You are the only one skipping out."

"I'm not hungry," she said, closing her eyes, "and I could say the same to you. Why are you here?"
