IMPORTANT A/N

Hey guys! If you all remember, I entered the FairytaleCommunity contest about fairytale retellings a few months ago. And I found out yesterday that I won one of the seven places! It is a huge honour and I really thank all of you who have supported me through the writing of this book.

And now, after a day of thinking about it, I have decided to enter the Wattys! This is a really big moment for me since I have only been writing seriously for a few months, but I want to try my hand in this. So, if you haven't voted on any of the previous chapters, I would appreciate it very much if you would go back and vote! :) Also, comments would be greatly welcomed on how I can improve my story. Don't be afraid to criticize and point out anything wrong or weird! :)

Thank you all so much again and I hope you enjoy this chapter! ^-^

"The goal will be to infiltrate the castle unnoticed."

Calissa looked at the brown map of the kingdom on the table. The castle was in the centre of it all, standing proud and strong over all the other smaller villages. Rivers and moats surrounded the castle as a defense against enemies and a tall, stone wall proved to be a difficult obstacle to penetrate.

"The conscripted men will be picked up in a few days," Simon gestured to the announcement of the draft on the table. It's ink was swirly and neat, clearly written by a professioned scribe, "The king is looking for more soldiers for his army and this is the perfect time to get within the castle walls. Since you are a girl, you will disguise yourself and enter into the group unnoticed and join the army."

The flaming torches around the room flickered, casting shadows on their faces. Ave was leaning against the wall, sharpening his knife as he listened. The occasional clash of rock and metal pierced through the air. His dark eyes flickered about the room. Rudi was lying on the stone ground, sleeping soundlessly beside Ave's feet.

Swords and weapons glinted in the dim light with maps and parchment was scattered all over the room. Chairs and tables were by the walls with shelves full of books and documents, full of information. There were no doors, no windows. It felt like prison.
