Calissa ran through the forest, watching her surroundings for the other men. The trees loomed around her, covering the sky. Sunlight shone through the foliage, peeking through the branches and providing light for the men. The barracks could no longer be seen from her location and she would have forgotten she was still within the castle walls if not for the fact that the prince wouldn't leave her mind.

His dark looks, his irritating smirk. There was something about him and always irked her.

She stopped running after a while when her body protested. It was already around noon and she hadn't found a single crystal. She shielded her eyes from the sun, panting harshly from the heat. Wiping sweat from her brow, she looked around at the forest around her.

Calissa leaned against a tree, wanting to provide some relief to her body. She felt weaker than usual and more exhausted. This was the forest. It was her element, her home. The trees and the animals were the ones she connected with. But, right now, she felt anything but. She walked slowly towards the north, limping as her stomach began to hurt.

Grinding her teeth in determination, she grasped the closest branch nearest to her and lifted herself up. Setting her foot on the branch, she placed her other foot on a crevice in the bark. She climbed up the tree, feeling her body groan in protest. When she was about halfway up, she looked around. She saw flashes of men behind bushes and in between trees, but they never let her know their true location.

She sighed, slamming her fist into the trunk. By this rate, the mission she was assigned to would have no progress. And it was all because of her lack of ability.

Sitting down on the branch, she listened closely to the sound of the forest, wanting to hear the familiar calls of nature. THe leaves rustled and she could hear the yells of men far away. But, there wasn't anything that she wanted to hear. She clenched her hands tightly, her knuckles turning white.

There were no birds, no foxes, no bears, no nothing. Not even a single rabbit was hopping through these woods. This wasn't a forest at all; it was a bleak garden with no life.
