Calissa couldn't believe her luck.
She stared at Prince Lionel, standing in front of her with a cold look on his face. His black cape was tied around him and flowed behind in the morning breeze. His sword was sheathed and tied around his waist. Calissa moved her eyes away as he walked around his group of men that he was supposed to train until the end of the war.
She clenched her fist behind her back. The sky was still dark with only small hints of light in the horizon. The stars were starting to disappear and the air smelt of fresh dew. They had been called from early in the morning and ordered to their respective groups that they had been put in the day before.
She stood with the other men, still and silent. The others were still as stoic as they were yesterday. The effects of the magic hadn't faded yet and she doubted that Prince Lionel would allow it to disappear. She clicked her tongue harshly against her mouth at the thought. As the only one with her conscience in tact, she felt like a deer surrounded by concentrated hunters.
Calissa felt her arm wound throb beneath the long sleeves of her uniform and gritted her teeth. She didn't think it was possible for her to hate someone so much. Soft footsteps sounded near her and she forced herself to relax.
She stared hard at the ground, not daring to look up. Fields of grass extended around them and disappeared into the sky. The building of the barracks stood strong in the distance with forests surrounding the perimeter of the area. The barracks had been built inside the castle walls, but in a separate unit. It was said so that the men training here wouldn't escape so easily. You would have to navigate through the forest and through the castle before you could even touch society. It was like they were in a different world.
The footsteps stopped in front of them and Calissa watched as the high and mighty Prince Lionel of the Kingdom of Astar stared down at his group of soldiers like they were nothing but meaningless peasants. Calissa, unfortunately, happened to be one of those.
When she found out Prince Lionel would be her trainer, she didn't know how to feel. For the whole night, she thought about it restlessly. For one, she would be able to keep a close eye on him. Learning his habits and his likes and dislikes would prove to be beneficial in the future. But, of course, there was the horrible consequence of enduring his annoying face for the rest of the year.
