On the day before her sixteenth birthday, she remembered being terrified as any girl would have been on that day. She had spent the day with her family and friends. But now that Calissa looked back, she could barely remember their faces. They were all just shadows, lingering in the back of her mind. She knew of their love and even heard their laughs in the faded corners of her memories, but their names had been long gone.

When the day finally came, Calissa recalled seeing the world blur as she collapsed on the ground. Just when her eyes began to close, she felt the buzz of magic surround her and the houses turned into trees. Minutes past and she saw herself lying in a bed of roots and roses. Her eyes closed slowly, never opening again.

She didn't know how many years passed when she was in her slumber. It seemed like forever. Her mind was still awake and her feelings alive, but the only difference was that she couldn't move and her being wasn't in the present. It was in the space between the past and the present. For those years in the forest, she felt the trees and the animals whispering to her. It was in those times where she learned to find companion with the wild.

The day when the spell was broken was the first day of spring. She remembered clearly. She had been in in the middle of a conversation with a deer, speaking of the seasons changing and how the flowers were beginning to bloom through the melting snow. The deer had ran away just when her eyes snapped open and the breath of life coming back into her body.

Instantly, her lips had been tingling and butterflies had erupted in her stomach. She remembered something warm that had caressed her face and she turned slowly to the one who had woken her up. She started to smile until her eyes saw his face.

The air stilled. Her heart stopped. Their breaths were the only sounds left. It was silent, but her mind was screaming... Why?

"My... Calissa..."

She gasped, shocking herself back to reality. His arms were still securely around her, unwilling to let go. The faint scent of sweat mixed in with dirt and leaves sent waves of nostalgia on her. Her instinct wanted nothing more than to accept him. But, she pushed the feelings away to the back of her mind. Gathering herself together, she elbowed him in the stomach, catching him off guard. Spinning out of his grasp, she put a reasonable distance between them, not able to take too many emotions at once. Picking out the knife from her boot, she pointed it at him, panting harshly from the heard pounding of her heart.
