"Mom, stop crying. It's just a dance with the guy that takes you." I said. I am guessing, I will be calling her that from now on. My mom was crying and couldn't stop. It all started with me putting on the pink nude dress. The top had beading sequins with swirly designs. The belt in the middle separated the top and the bottom ruffle spreading out, making it end two inches below my knees. I wore the beige bracelet along with a necklace that had the letter "A" on it. It was gold around the edges but the "A" was silver. I had my hair long and curled to the side making the other side show my Swaziland charming smooth gold plated flower design inlay round oval cubic Zircon small hoop earrings. Wow that is a mouth full. After I got the dress on and hair done, I put my make up on. I added a little mascara to make my eyes pop and the eyeliner, so that I could have the corners look like wings. I did this all on top of my foundation which I used to blend in with my skin tone.
Once I was done, I put on the final touch. My shoes. They were gold platform peep toe pumps that were sparkly and had gold on the ends. I twirled around showing everyone what I looked like. I then looked in the mirror. I was shocked and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I felt beautiful.
"OMG! Aubrey, is....is that you." my mom asked. She began crying again for the fourth time from me getting ready.
"Yea. You like it." I asked even though I knew the answer.
"No. I love it. You look absolutely stunning." she said. As I grabbed my doubled-led layer faux leather clutch bag, I put my phone inside. That is all I needed in case, someone called or for any emergencies. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. I was about to get it before my mom told me to stay in the room. I knew were she was going with this. She wanted me to stay in the room, so that when I walked down, Jake will be shock and also she wanted to have a quick talk with him.
I heard chattering going on and then my mom yelled my name. I looked at myself in the mirror once more before I walked out the door and headed downstairs. I slowly walked down the stairs. Jake's head rises up as he meets my legs all the way up to my face. His jaw dropped as I walked into the room. He was speechless. I can't believe I made a guy go mute. Speechless. I smiled at him as he looked me up and down again for the 4th time. Finally he spoke.
"You look.......absolutely amazing." I blushed at his comment.
"Okay kids, say cheese." My mom said holding out the camera. She hit the clicking button, making the flash come on for three seconds then another and then it was done. Once we were done with pictures, Jake got the door like a gentlemen and open it for me closing the door behind us. It was not long before another car came into the drive way. I stopped in my tracks, knowing exactly who it was. My adopted dad. He was on a business trip and always was out of town. I learned to not get attached to him too much because otherwise it makes it harder when he is away.
"Aubrey. Wow....you look beautiful. OMG! Where you heading to?" I went to hug him and then went next to Jake.
"I'm going to the Winter Prom. Mom wanted me to go and then I got a date. And yea. Oh and this is Jake Ashford. He is new in my school." I said. My dad took one glance at Jake and right then and there I felt sick to my stomach. Please don't hate him. Please don't hate him. He smiled and took out his hand to shake Jake's. Jake did the same. I smiled at my dad.
"It's nice to meet you sir. I will make sure to bring her back home, safely right after. I promise." Jake said.
"Oh, son you can call me Brett." Seeing my dad smile put a smile on my face because I knew they would get along just fine.
"Okay....Brett." I could tell Jake was nervous because he was probably used to calling adults sir and ma'am. Typical Jake.
After that little meeting; the so called parents thing, Jake and I went to the car while my dad headed towards the house. Jake had rushed towards the car and opened it letting me in. The scent in his car filled my noise with vanilla. He, then rushed to the other side. I check the time to see that it was 7:53p.m. Jake started the car that came to life and we headed towards our winter prom. It was silent for awhile. A good one. Jake obviously breaks the silence like he usually does.
