Jake's P.O.V.
It's been a half an hour already and we haven't gotten any news yet. Still, I kept my calm for my mother. She needed to be okay and know that everything was going well.
Aubrey stayed with me still. I offered to take her home but she said that she was going to stay until Ara was better and she gotta see her. Man, I couldn't tell you how much more I fell in love with her.
Because it was more than anyone could possibly imagine.
One of the doctors than came out. She had blood on her shirt. I guess it was from Ara. She had a look that I couldn't comprehend.
My mom stood up immediately. "How is she?" She asked.
"Your daughter is doing great. She is a little fighter. Right now we are trying to clean the kidney before we put it in. So, it will take a little longer than we expected but she is doing really well." the doctor spoke. My mom had a small smile on her face because she was scared and now she is a nervous wreck.
"Thank you, doctor." I said. She nodded and walked back.
We waited for another hour which felt like an eternity but really it was just time being extra over the top.
Stupid time.
The actual surgeon who was performing the surgery walked out through the double doors like the other doctor. He had sort of a relief look about him. I don't know.
Again my mom immediately stood up. She didn't speak as she let him start off.
"Your Arabella's guardian." He asked.
"Yes, I am. What's the upcoming news." She asked.
"Okay well, she did great. There was a few issues with the bleeding but once we got control of it she was good as brand new. She is in the ICU getting the regularly check ups every ten minutes. Come, I'll show you the way." He said.
My mom let out a breath as she felt the world of her shoulders disappear and she was finally able to breathe. She walked with him as I followed behind.
We walked through the hall as sick hands were all I could see from left to right. Somehow, I felt so disenfranchised by the fact that I couldn't help them in any way. I know it's weird but if that was my sister, (which could've happened) I would have wanted everything helpful to be done.
We then walked into the room she was in and she looked a little better than originally. This was good because they next few hours are crucial. If she rejects the kidney than we are back to the beginning and I don't think she'll have more time.
My mom sat next to her as her she softly ran her hand through her hair. Ara peacefully rest and the monitors showed her heartbeat was getting stronger.
"Now, she is going to need her rest for a couple of hours just because she has been in surgery for longer than we anticipated and she needs to get some energy back." The doctor spoke.
"Thank you, Doctor Haynes." I said as I quickly glanced at his name tag.
He nodded his head and walked out of the room. My mom stayed with her for awhile and then left to get some quality food. It was just Aubrey and I there now.
"So, how are you feeling?" Aubrey asked.
"Like maybe I can breathe. I don't know. I just want to see what happens and then maybe I'll have an answer for you by then." I said. She nodded understandingly and caressed my arm in a soothing way. Made me feel calm and not stressed at all.
"How about you? How are you coping with all of this?" I asked just realizing that she hasn't really been to a hospital I don't think since the day her parents died.
