When I woke up, the tv was off and Caroline was gone. I slightly lifted my head to look around for her, but I saw the light from the stairs and knew she already went up.
I then looked down at Steve, who was still peacefully asleep right next to me. He was still holding on to my arm and I didn't care that he would ever stop. I cringed thinking that in a matter of moments this would all be gone.
I heard the footsteps down the stairs that shook me from my daydream. My head screamed in panic as I prayed it wouldn't be my mom. The shadow turned the corner and looked at me with a smile.
"Oh good you're awake." Caroline said.
"God Caroline you scared me."
"Mom has breakfast ready, if you don't come up now, she might come down. Just a fair warning."
"Alright, alright."
She started walking back upstairs as I slowly pulled the blanket off of me and Steve. He stirred quietly as I set it on the couch with my free hand. He let go of my arm and started opening his eyes as I started moving myself up to get off the couch. Glancing over to him, who was still not completely awake, I took a piece of his hair and ran it between my fingers. Then I stood up and let go of him to start the hard part of the morning.
"Wait Bucky, where are you going?"
"Sorry Steve, breakfast." I gave him a half smile.
Oh. He mouthed as he got up from the couch to follow me. I ran up the stairs and was blinded by the sunlight at the top.
"Ah that's bright." Steve said from behind me.
"I know." I stepped out into the living room and walked through to the kitchen. My sister was sitting at the table reading a newspaper and Anna and Alex were eating pancakes at the counter. When I walked in, Caroline smirked at me and nodded over to mom.
"Morning ma."
She turned to face me with a smile.
"Ah good morning sweetie... I thought you boys were going to be sleeping all day!"
"We would've." I said directing it at Steve, who wasn't even paying attention.
I walked over to Caroline and peeked over her shoulder to read the newspaper.
"Whatcha reading?"
"Eh just an article about some new military base they found... Seems to be all there is anymore."
"Nazis?"
"Who else would it be?" She retorted back.
Steve sat down at the table as my mother brought over two plates of pancakes. I pulled out the seat next to him and sat down between him and Caroline.
"Your mom has so much energy compared to mine." Steve whispered to me.
"I know." I laughed back.
Caroline started reading an article out loud as my mom came over and snatched the newspaper out of her hands.
"I was reading that."
"I know I could hear you. But quite frankly I would like to talk about something other than the fighting."
"Sorry mom. I forgot."
