The morning started by a loud knock on the door. I startled awake as Steve was stirring on the couch. I fumbled on my feet to get up so Steve wouldn't have to.
"Who is it?" Steve grumbled to me as I walked across the room.
"I don't know." I whispered back.
I opened the door to the sun shining right in my face and Caroline smiling right below it.
"Car?"
"Hey Bucky! You guys awake yet?" She said cheerfully.
"Um no one is this early. But I guess we are now." I mumbled opening the door to let her in.
"Seriously you two? It's noon."
"It's noon?" Steve questioned tiredly from the couch.
"Uh yeah that's why I came over."
"So why exactly did you come over anyways?" I questioned.
"Oh Steve left his jacket when you guys left in a hurry because someone didn't want Steve playing truth or dare." She half accused me holding up the jacket in her hands.
Steve got up from the couch and rubbed his face as he walked over to the kitchen.
"I played truth or dare?"
"Yeah you were doing great until Bucky decided to pull you out." She pointed at me.
"Hey he wasn't thinking straight, I wasn't going to let him do that."
"Do what?" Steve mumbled with a confused look.
"Do your dare." She replied.
"Wait...Did I do it or not?" He asked.
"No." "Yes."
"What?" Steve and Caroline both responded.
"Yeah he did it." I whispered to the floor.
"Seriously?! With who?" She squealed.
I raised my eyebrows and shook my head.
"OH MY... SERIOUSLY! Bucky!" She hit my shoulder as Steve stared at us some more.
"Wait what? What did I do? With who?"
"Nothing." I replied with a smile.
She giggled staring at the floor.
"Ohmygoooood..." Car sang to herself as she sat down at the counter next to Steve.
I walked into the kitchen and started getting things out of the fridge to make Steve breakfast as he talked from the counter.
"I'm so confused..." He mumbled to me.
"You don't remember do you?" I asked looking back at him.
"No."
"What's the last thing you can recall about last night?"
"Talking to a group of people at Caroline's party..."
"Oh. Do you remember walking home?"
"I don't remember walking at all..."
Well technically you didn't Steve.
"Do you remember coming home?"
He shook his head.
"What about when you kissed the neighbor girl on the way up the stairs?"
"I DID WHAT?!" He panicked.
"I'm just kidding Steve!" I laughed.
"That's not funny Bucky, I can't stand her."
"I know." I smirked.
"So you really can't remember anything?" Caroline asked.
"I do remember being in the dark... And thinking really hard about something... And then there's this odd rush... I don't know... I don't know what it was, but that's the only thing I remember before passing out." He looked so deep in thought, like he was actually trying hard to figure it out.
It was adorable.
I had to keep myself from staring at him too long before he noticed.
But of course Caroline did.
"I should probably go." She whispered getting up from her stool.
"Oh um you sure? Bucky makes a really good omelet." Steve taunted.
"Oh do you now?" She smirked at me.
"Oh shut up Caroline." I whispered.
"Thanks Steve but I already ate. See you guys later."
As she turned to walk towards the door I followed her into the living room.
"Wait Car..."
"What?" She turned back.
"Can I talk to you for a second?" I whispered.
"Yeah what is it?"
"Remember how I told you I enlisted the other day?"
"Yeah."
"Well I leave next week. How should I tell Steve?"
"Either way he's gonna be trying to get in like crazy to follow you there."
"I know that's the problem. He can't come with me."
"It won't stop him from trying." She smiled softly.
"I know, he's already tried twice." I whispered.
"Just tell him. You don't have to try to stop him."
"Yes I do."
"Why?"
"Because... I just... He can't. Think about it Car he physically can't."
"I guess not. But... Just take him out to do something fun."
"Like that science convention?"
"If that's your definition of fun."
"I could bring along some friends of mine too."
"There you go."
"Thanks Car." I whispered pulling her in for a hug.
"If I don't see you by then, be careful Bucky."
"Will do." I smiled opening the door for her.
As she walked away I looked out at the sun and then down at the floor as I shut the door. I took a deep breath as I set my head against it.
"Buck?" Steve called from the kitchen doorway.
"Steve... I have to tell you something."
