I looked at Aaron and my eyes started filling with tears.
"You okay?", he asked again. I nodded slightly in response.
"Guys, stop it.", Nat suddenly said. We both looked at her. "Don't end it like this. You shouldn't be crying these last few hours. You should enjoy every minute and don't waste them being sad.", she said.
"Yeah, I agree.", George said as he came down the stairs. "She's right. Don't think about what will happen. Think about now, about being together.", he said and smiled slightly.
I looked at Aaron, he had to smile slightly. "Come on, let's go.", he said, took my hand and we left the hotel one last time. We handed our suitcases over to John and entered the bus.
Aaron and I sat down next to each other and looked into each other's eyes.
"You know I love you, right?", he asked me quietly.
"Of course, I do. Why are you asking me that?", I asked a little worried. He took my hands in his and kissed them.
"Just wanted to make sure.", he replied with a smile. I looked at him and moved a bit closer to him. "I know that you love me. And I love you, too. More than I can put into words.", I said and kissed him gently.
He smiled slightly and pulled me as close as the armrest between us let him. I let the kiss last for some more seconds, then I pushed him away to look at him.
"Do you think we can work this out?", I asked him with obvious uncertainty in my voice.
He sighed and looked at his hands still holding mine. "I wish I could just say yes, but... truth is, I don't know.", he mumbled. He looked up at me again. "Not the answer you were hoping for, huh?"
"Not really.", I replied with a slight smile.
"Would it help if I said that I really want it to work out? I wanna be with you, Scar. Just thinking about not being with you, thinking back to those last few days without you. I already got so used to being with you it feels wrong not to be."
I leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on his cheek. "We will work this out somehow.", I said determined, almost believing it myself as I said it.
A smile spread around his lips, then he put his arms underneath my body, lifted me a little and pulled me onto his lap before switching over to my seat so my feet were resting on his now empty seat.
"We'll call each other every day, even if it's the middle of the night. And we'll facetime. Visit each other whenever we can.", he whispered into my ear and rested his head against mine.
"Sounds like a solid plan.", I replied quietly and closed my eyes.
We were just sitting there in silence for a long time until the bus made the first stop for the first break. Everyone got out of the bus to stretch their legs and Nat and I decided to go to the bathroom of the rest stop.
"Well?"
"Well what?"
"Are you guys trying out the long-distance thing or not?"
"Yeah, we are.", I replied with a weak smile.
She looked at me and tilted her head a little before pulling me into a hug. "It'll work out, I promise."
"Because love conquers all and stuff?", I asked her and imitated the hand gesture she did earlier.
She laughed out loud and nodded. "Exactly."
