North and South Korea - Maybe

Im Yong Soo glared across the table at the empty seat in front of him. It was where his brother was meant to be. Meant to be. He was late. Very late.

This hadn't been his idea, he'd been completely against it, but Aniki had insisted that they meet again. 'It's no good having a twin brother you're both meant to be the same country of, if you can't get along properly.' Aniki had glared at him in a 'and don't even mention Kiku' way, so he'd kept quiet.

So, here he was, sitting at a window seat in a fancy Chinese restaurant Aniki had recommended, waiting for the seat opposite him fill up.

He'd been there for about half an hour now. Yes, he'd been late, but only by five minutes, and no way would Hyung Soo have already left, just because he was a couple of minutes late. Yong Soo was always late... but maybe that was why he'd left. Aniki had told him that he'd be late and he'd set a deadline for how long he would wait. Maybe, he'd gotten there early, waited ten minutes and then gave up as he didn't want to go through with this either, or he thought he'd be later than he was.

Yong Soo gulped and glanced out of the window. It was no good saying maybe all the time. Maybe this... maybe that... maybe an earthquake would hit... maybe they'd all suddenly fall down dead... maybe a meteorite would strike the Earth... maybe the waitress who was giving him angry glares would suddenly walk over and dump the pot of tea she had in her hand over his head... maybe... maybe Im Hyung Soo wouldn't show up at all.

He sighed. He didn't blame him. Who would want a brother like him? What was he even good for? Nothing. There was no point to his existence. Maybe if he was like Aniki, or Kiku, or Mei there'd be a point, being the only representative of a country... but there were two parts to Korea, so it could deal with loosing one of it's representatives.

There was an exasperated sigh and a man around the same size as himself sat in the empty seat. He had the same face, same brown eyes and same colour hair as Yong Soo, but his was in a long plait, like Yong Soo's had been before he cut it. He was wearing a similar hanbok, except in red instead of blue and was scowling across at him.

"About time" Yong Soo said, turning from the window. "I was thinking you weren't coming."

"Shut up" Hyung Soo muttered, scowling at the table.

"You know that won't help anything?" Yong Soo raised an eyebrow. "The table hasn't done anything to you so stop scowling at it."

Hyung Soo sighed again. "So... um..."

"Hi" Yong Soo grinned. "What's been going on in your life since 'the Split?'"

Hyung Soo shrugged. "Not much I guess."

"You still playing... what was it?" Yong Soo screwed up his brow in thought. "Um... clarinet?"

Hyung Soo sighed for the third time. He was already starting to get on Yong Soo's nerves, but he pushed the feeling of irritation down.

"He's probably thinking the same about me" he thought.

"It's the bassoon" Hyung Soo said calmly, showing no signs of the same irritation. "And yes, I am."

"You must be really good at that now then right?" Yong Soo had never liked his instrument. It was weirdly shaped and gave off an even weirder sound, but this was no time to tell him. Maybe if they got their relationship back on track... maybe then he'd be able to do it. Or maybe it'd be better for him not to do so.

"I guess I'm all right" Hyung Soo shrugged again. Yep, he was definitely getting on his nerves. Yong Soo doubted he had many nerves left for his younger twin to step on.

The waitress who had been glaring at him came over with a notebook.

"Can I have a glass of Sinkiang?" Yong Soo asked, ignoring the disgusted look he received from Hyung Soo. "And Chow Mein?" The waitress nodded, none of the glaring from before evident.

"I'll just have Chrysanthemum Tea and some dumplings please" Hyung Soo hid the disgust in his voice and handed her their menus. "Sinkiang?" he questioned the second she was out of earshot. "Since when were humanly of age?"

"Since over one thousand years ago" he grinned, lacing his fingers behind his head and leaning back.

"To mortals you're still only fifteen" Hyung Soo scoffed.

"So are you" Yong Soo raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, but I don't go about ordering alcohol do I?" Hyung glared at him and took a deep breath. "What would Aniki say?"

"Yeah, Aniki you left" Yong Soo hissed. "I'd just like to take some time to point out that it was you who left him, not me. You were the one who abandoned our entire family."

"What about Kiku?" Hyung Soo folded his arms. "You telling him off too?"

"No" Yong Soo said through gritted teeth. "Because he's actually talking to us."

Hyung Soo sighed. "This is hopeless. I don't even know why we thought we could get on again."

Yong Soo nodded. In a weird way, he didn't want him to leave, but at the same time, he really, really wanted to see the back of him. They sat in silence for a moment. "Do you remember when Mei had her first period?"

He expected Hyung Soo to snap or scoff or scowl at him, maybe even walk off, but instead, the ever present scowl turned into a slight smile. "She thought she was dying. Aniki didn't know anything about it. He never told her about it."

Yong Soo bit his lip, letting out a small giggle which turned into a full fit of laughter. Hyung Soo stared at him for a minute before joining in. "You have a weird laugh."

"Oh yeah?" Yong Soo chuckled. "So do you."

Hyung Soo calmed himself down, regaining his usual calm demeanour, glanced at Yong Soo, and then burst out laughing all over again. "Aniki, what's happening?" he said in a high pitched voice.

"Aniki, I'm dying. Help me Aniki, why am I bleeding?" Yong Soo lay his head on the table. "And the best part was the way the colour left Aniki's face. He just went white, like a sheet of paper."

"I think he was more scared than she was!" Hyung Soo shook his head and calmed himself down again. Yong Soo mirrored him, calming down completely until they were sat in silence again. "Listen... I'm sorry I left everyone."

Yong Soo grinned. "It's fine. Maybe... we could start over again?"

Hyung Soo nodded. "Maybe..."

Yong Soo held out his hand. "Hi, my name is Im Yong Soo. I'm your slightly older twin brother and together we represent the nation of Korea."

A smile tugged at Hyung Soo's lips. "I'm Im Hyung Soo, your slightly younger twin brother."

Yong Soo laughed. Maybe... just maybe... this wasn't going to be all that bad...

Was it okay? It was just an idea I had, but I don't really know the characters as well as I know the rest. If I kind of went out on the personalities at any point, please tell me.
