Josh's POV

I currently am taking Declan's bloody bed sheets to fence, since it might distract the Grayies for a moment and they're too ruined to salvage anyway.

I see George practicing his shooting off to the side and I decide not to bother him. He's getting better and he's busy focusing.

I am surprised to see though, Lauren, staring at a Grayie with fear across her face.

I instantly jog over to her, and notice her knuckles are white as she grips her bow.

"Lauren?"

Her head snaps to me and she gives a small gasp, before dropping her bow and placing a hand on her chest.

"You scared the crap outta me!" She whined, carefully bending over and picking up her bow.

The Grayie now turns its attention to me, it's one good eye focused on the sheets I'm holding. It seems to use whatever strength it has to press itself against the fence, it's bony and sickly arms poking through the holes.

I roll my eyes and take a step back, balling the ragged sheets and pulling my shoulder back, tossing it over the fence.

It lands a bit away, and the Grayie along with others waddle to it with no hesitation.

Lauren looked like she was going to be sick and turned away, her eyebrows knitting together in frustration.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing," she sighs. A strand of her chestnut hair falls in front of her face and I long to put it back in its place.

Or at least touch her creamy white cheeks.

"Stop staring at me." She whispers with hooded eyes. She groans and drops to the ground, putting her head in her hands.

"I'm trying to kill a Grayie." She confesses.

I raise my eyebrows and plop next to her.

"Any progress?" I know Lauren is an amazing shot, she is a natural born hunter, but when it comes to the sons of bitches she freezes up.

I don't believe it's just fear though, it's something that had to do with that hospital, in which her and her brothers were found.

She only told me the basics, Winnie and Viv saved them, her mother died just before, etc etc.

But when she found me in that cabin, I knew just by looking she had experienced something, that made her eyes look ten years older.

Beautiful all the same, but clouded with trauma and pain.

She shook her head shamefully and rested it on her knees. I take the opportunity to scoot closer and tenderly place my hand over hers.

I can see a hint of blush reach her cheeks before she turns to hide her face, but she doesn't pull away.

I stroke my thumb over the smooth back of her hand and it seems to relax her.

"Why can't I do this?" she groaned, looking back up.

"It's just not for everyone." I shrug.

Her pink lips press into a thin line and I can't help but stare at them. They were slightly chapped and she ran her tongue over the dry exterior.

I try to control my breathing and stare at our hands instead.

"Can you help me?"

I hesitate, instead taking her bow and running a hand over the polished wood. She took better care of this bow than I could've imagined.

"Sure." I sigh and look back to face her.

Her green eyes startle me, and her mouth is upturned into a smile. I take this chance to look over her entire face.

The freckles sprinkled on the bridge of her nose, her unbelievably long eyelashes that giver her a mysterious -and somewhat sexy- look.

She got up, taking her bow out of my hands.

"Where are you going?" I ask in confusion.

She shrugged and slung her bow on her back.

"Harry asked me to teach him how to make his own bow."

My mouth instantly downturns and I can't help but closing my hand into a fist as Lauren walks back to the house.

Harry?

Harry?

The useless pop star? As if he could protect her like I could. Like I have.

"I see a green eyed monster." I heard a teasing voice behind me.

I turn and see George with a smirk on his face.

"Shut up." I grumbled.

"Just freaking tell her you like her." He rolled his eyes and turned back to Grayies.

"It's not that simple."

"It seems pretty simple to me, and I'm ten." he scoffs.

"Exactly. You don't know what you're talking about." I fired back and grinned triumphantly.

"I know enough. Like the fact that you're in love with my sister."

My face instantly pales and I scowl.

"It's not like that. Just shut up, okay?"

Frustrated, I run a hand through my messy dark hair and push it back. I stand up, taking a minute to stretch and head back inside, making sure to warn George not to stay out here too long.

He nodded without a word and continued to aim his small pistol.

As I enter the house I can hear the murmurs of at least five different conversations echoing in the house.

And I heard Lauren's giggle the clearest.

Harry's deep throated laugh mixes with hers and I feel like punching a wall.

"Josh?"

I turn around quickly, facing Viv who had a curious expression on her face.

"What?" I snapped.

She raised an eyebrow at my sudden rudeness but said nothing. Instead she pointed her gaze at my hand.

I look down and notice I had formed a fist. I feel blood pumping and I quickly let it go, making it go a bit numb with sudden circulation.

"Um...I need you and Lauren to check the snares. Id do it myself but I need to check on Maisy. Got it?"

I perk up at the mention of Lauren and I spending some time together and nod.

Now she won't have to hang out with Mr. Pop star.

Lauren's POV

I giggled as Harry made a funny face.

"You're not focusing." I warn playfully.

"How can I when I'm looking at this pretty face?" He remarked and gently took my chin in his hand.

I heard an abrupt cough behind me and Harry instantly pulled away.

He wore a slight frown and I turned back to see who was behind me.

Josh glared at Harry and had his bat over his shoulder. His messy swept hair was pushed back, giving him a more...rugged look.

His piercing gray eyes continued to glare at Harry before he focused his attention to me.

"Hope I'm not interrupting." He said with a sly grin, but his eyes still looked angry.

"Not at all." Harry said smoothly, leaning back in his chair.

Josh pursed his lips and turned to me.

"Viv told us to go out and check the snares." He informed me, and I notice our usual game bag slung over his other shoulder.

I sigh, and look back at Harry.

"Looks like Ill have to teach you another time."

He shrugs and smiles warmly.

"Not a problem if I get to see more of you." He flirted shamelessly.

I blushed and looked down, picking up my bow.

"We have to go Lauren." Josh said impatiently, a bitter tone to his voice.

I nod and follow him out.

Once we're on the other side of the fence, Josh leans over to me, taking my hand and leading me thoughout the woods.

I smile shyly to myself as my heart picks up speed.

If only he knew how much he really meant to me...
