The seating area of the Hagid Research Facility was in shambles, chairs and pamphlets littered the beige carpet, while the ceiling lights above us flickered omnisiouly. I carefully made my way to the receptionist desk, the glass window was splattered with blood and a rotting body of a woman in professional clothing laid on the floor, limbs bent at awkward angles and stomach ripped open, dried intestines laid out as half eaten left overs from the Grayies.
She wasn't a Grayie however, she was killed at the beginning of the infection, her brain destroyed a long time ago along with the rest of her body. Still, I reached over in caution to get her security bagde that was half sunken in the pool of blood that filled her chest cavity. I wrinkled my nose in disgust, but successfully pulled out the badge and made my way back to the group, who had surrounded the security door.
"Only floor two clearance.." Viv sighed, taking the badge from me. "The test subject accommodations are located on level four, but this will at least get us past the security check point."
Viv wiped the remaining blood off the card and swiped it with ease, used to the building's inner workings.
We heard a distant shouting and banging from somewhere in the building. That was Winnie's group doing their job, making sure to lead any remaining Grayies away, so we can get Lauren out fast with as little difficulty as possible. Of course, this banging wasn't just heard by the building's Grayies, but probably from the army of Grayies that resided by the Middle School just a few blocks from here.
We had to move fast.
"Everybody ready?"
I felt Louis glance at me from the corner of his eye, making my heart pace pick up. Not in a good way, but more in a 'we might not get out of this alive' sort of sense. We hadn't talked since he woke up from his 'comatose state' as Liam would call it, and I don't think I have it in me to say good-bye to him,
again.
I was going to make sure he lived through this, after all he's done for me and all that I've done to him, I at least owe him that.
"Ready as I'll ever be." He mumbled, mostly to himself. Without thinking, I reach over and squeezed his hand, more for my sake than his. He tensed up, not sure what to make of my quick gesture, but I quickly dropped his hand when faced me.
Before he could say something, Viv opened the door, and we rushed in.
The corridor was empty, but it looked like something out of a horror film. Blood was everywhere, on the floors, walls, and doors. There were gun shot holes in the walls and claw marks on the ground, made by the victims who were dragged away and eaten alive.
The stench of decay was overpowering, making me gag on reflex. I've seen alot in my life, too much in fact, but never have I seen the something so horrific. I could almost hear the terror filled screams of those who suffered and became the monsters that roam the streets today.
Josh staggered, upon looking at the hallway. We all knew at the back of our minds, that it only will get worse from here.
"We gotta move." Viv murmured quietly, turning away from the sight. "Scar and Louis, you have to find me a level 5 or above clearance card so we can get to Lauren, check the bodies. Liam, Josh and I will try to get into the security mainframe on the second floor. Meet us in the office after you find the badge."
I silently panicked, gripping my gun tighter than usual. The last time I was alone with Louis, he started to remember me and passed out for 2 days. I would have to keep my distance.
