Viv
"The base of the stream should be just behind those trees." Jared pointed to a cluster of leaves, and the steady sound of water rushing could be heard from where we stood. I fixed the duffel on my shoulder and prepared myself to climb the steep hill.
"Why did you send everyone capable of handling a gun to get supplies?" Jack muttered, looking around frantically before rushing upwards.
"I'm here aren't I? Besides, we probably won't see any Grayies, we're far from any neighborhoods. Grayies head into town, everyone knows that." I handed the duffel to Jared who was already up on the ledge. Jack had just made it and now it was my turn to climb.
"Why doesn't that reassure me?"
"It's gonna be fine." Jared piped, laying a hand on Jack's shoulder. As I was about to start climbing I heard something snap behind me. Everyone froze, and I paused my actions, exchanging a look with Jared. Jack's eyes were wide and I heard his quiet whimper. He glared at me, then carefully picked up the bag and backed away slowly, heading to the stream.
Jared watched him carefully, then turned back to me.
"Viv?"
I shook my head, a finger on my lips.
'Just go, I'll take care of it.' I mouthed. Jared still looked uncertain, clutching his gun tightly before nodding and following my old Biology teacher.
I groaned mentally, turning back to the source of the sound. Everything was silent, and with a painfully slow pace, I walked towards the bushes that concealed my probable Grayie. I drew out my gun and click off the safety.
"If you're human, lemme know cause I'm about to make it rain bullets." I snarled, not really expecting a reply .
To my surprise however, I heard a yelp and a loud 'wait!'
And even more to my surprise, and anger, it was Liam who stood up from the bushes.
This boy is in trouble now.
"Well...this is certainly a coincidence running into you." Liam said sheepishly. I didn't hesitate to walk up to Liam, raising my hand high and smacking him upside the head.
"Ah!"
"What the hell, Liam?" I seethed, angrily clicking the saftey back on and shoving my gun back in it's holster.
"I thought you would need some backup! Oh come on, I figured if Niall could do it why can't I?" Liam stuttered, repeatedly rubbing the back of his head. His eyes were squinted and head slightly bowed, so he was looking at me through his eyelashes.
I shook my head at his explanation.
"What are you talking about? Where's Niall?"
"He...might've went after Winnie?" I glared at him with my lips pursed, itching to give him another hit.
"You boys are just complete idiots aren't you?" I groaned, pinching the bridge of my nose. Liam chuckled humorlessly, I guess finally realizing what a stupid idea this was.
"I can't even shoot a gun." He giggled, putting his face in his hands. I chuckled with him, letting my anger slip away. Although what he did was incredibly ill advised and he should've thought it through, I couldn't help but think how Liam did it for me.
He was concerned for me.
"Viv? Did you die yet?" I heard Jared call out with a laugh. I'm guessing he heard Liam and I's conversation and worked it out for himself.
"Yep, I'm spurting from my arteries." I replied. Liam ran his pointer finger across his neck in a slicing motion and stuck his tongue out, playing dead. I snickered, shooting him with an imaginary finger gun.
"Ewwww, stop being cute it's nauseating."
My face turned a slight pink and I turned away, awkwardly coughing."Aww, would you like me to shoot you too?" I teased, grabbing my actual gun and pointing it towards the trees where I knew Jared was hiding.
He yelped and I heard his shuffling footsteps as he ran.
"Well, that's taken care of." I grinned, turning back to Liam. He was grinning widely, his brown eyes crinkled at the edges. His simple gray t-shirt was covered in dust and leaves and I winced at the rip in his jeans. It's never good to be exposed."I'll get Maisy to stitch that when she's strong enough." I said quietly, eyeing the long opening that went from the top of his knee to the middle of his calf.
He turned to wear I was looking and shrugged. He didn't seem worried but he didn't know how dangerous something like that actually could be.
Once, when this entire thing really started, there was a boy in our group.
