"Viv, I know you are determined to find Lauren, but we need a plan." I murmured quietly, picking up my pace to match her fast stride, even when I had longer legs.

"Go in, save Lauren, kill anything that gets in my way. How's that for a plan?" She snarled through gritted teeth. My stomach churned at her attitude. Her eyes, usually bright and focused on the intent of protecting her family, were empty. They were just glazed over, not processing anything that was happening.

"What if it isn't something that gets in your way?"

"Wanna clarify Yoda?" She bit, still refusing to meet my gaze. Her knuckles were so damn white. I don't think any blood flow is getting to her fingers with her hand in a permanent fist.

"What if someone gets in your way? What if..." I paused, I dare not mention his name, Viv made it obvious that she doesn't consider the man that took Lauren her father anymore.

Viv however knew whom I was talking about. She laughed without humor, its was a horrible sound that laugh. Bitter and scratchy, with a painful lump pushing against her vocal cords.

She was trying not to cry.

"Then I kill it too."

I sighed, slowing my walk to fall in sync with Winnie who was a few feet behind. If I couldn't get through Viv, then perhaps her best friend could.

Winnie looked distraught, painfully watching Viv march blindly into the fire. Niall walked beside her, looking at her carefully and fingers twitching to hold her hand. It was actually quite obvious of his feelings for her. I might not be able to read Viv, but Niall was like a brother and knowing him for years helped me recognize the signs of when he cared for someone.

"Where exactly are we going?" I kept my voice quiet, so that Viv wouldn't overhear. Winnie tore her eyes away to glance at me, a frown on her features.

"It's just across the highway, but we can't take a car, the roads are blocked." She had a fearful look, wringing her hands nervously. Niall raised a questioning eyebrow, noticing the strange behavior, but decided to leave it alone.

I suppose it'll all be explained eventually.

After a while of walking we reached the roadblock.

When Winnie mentioned roadblock, I guess the boys and I just assumed it was a pile up of cars, maybe a few fallen trees caused by the chaos of the outbreak during its first hours. Maybe even a government established roadblock in an attempt to control the situation at first.

No, this roadblock wasn't anything like that.

Niall and I stared at Winnie with wide eyes, who refused to meet our gaze. Harry and Zayn were both starting to murmur each other and Louis simply stopped walking all together. Just a few meters ahead of us was a work of genius; horrific, twisted genius.

Spiked pieces of wood and metal were bound together and pointed outward, facing the way opposite of which we came. Barbed wire was criss crossed among the sharp weaponed fence and I saw a black sheet placed over a large stretch of pavement.

"Stay away from that, its a hole with sharp spikes on the bottom." Scarlett warned, nodding towards the blanket which I'm assuming is there to not so subtly hide the pit. However, I doubt that a Grayie could tell the difference between black streets and black sheets.
