Lighting up My Shadowy Life

Shadow's PovIt'd been at least three days since Dark had brought me to the palace of winds, Guufu had given me my own room though he made sure there was no window for me to escape from. On the first day I was here I'd been taken to see Guufu by Dark after I was alone with that monster....
Flashback"Hello Shadow how've you been?" Guufu gave me a thin lipped smile. Taking a step back I quickly searched the room for an exit as I did so he laughed, "There's no way for you escape me in here stupid boy."

"kghk! What do you want!??!?" I growled fiercely. As he grabbed me by the collar of my tunic I shouted, "Put me down!"

He smiled and laughed again, "I don't think so Shadow. You know what I want now don't you."

As Guufu laughed at my struggling I aimed a kick at him stomach, "Well you aren't getting them!" As he caught my foot mid kick I met my eyes with his, "No matter what you do I will not give in to you Guufu."

"You poor fool," He scoffed while dropping me to the ground, "Do you even know what those flames did to you?" I watched curiously as a flame appeared in his hand, "Shadow here's a riddle for you; What creates shadows, but also destroys them with it's touch?"

I stared directly at the flame pondering the answer, "The sun, no light the answer is light."

As I gave the correct answer from what I could tell Guufu smiled, "That's exactly right Shadow. And now because you so foolishly touched those flames your greatest weakness is none other than that, if you don't do as I say I'll use that new weakness you gave to yourself against you."

"What do you mean by 'your greatest weakness is none other than that now' light won't hurt me.." Glaring at him I was sure of my words as I spoke. how could light become my greatest weakness because of that small mistake? "I know it won't despite my name I know it cannot harm me Guufu."

"You gullible fool, do you not remember your mothers' special ability she had before I ended her life for her? She named you Shadow for a very specific reason you idiot." He laughed bouncing the flame in his hand.

Meeting my eyes with his I frowned, "She had the ability to see the outcomes for many situations and put it to good use during the war until you..." it hit me then my mother had seen this outcome in my life when I was small and chose my name because of that. Slowly I backed away from Guufu now seeing the flame in his hand as a threat to me, "You-"

Seeing that I now understood the situation Guufu made the flame vanish, "If you do as I say I shall use that knowledge against you Shadow. You have three days to make your choice stay and do as I say or we see what light will do to you now. Dark take him back to his room."

Flashback end

"My time to decide is up I guess I have to do what he wants..." I looked up at the door wishing that there was another option besides this, "I'm sorry (Y/n), Vaati, there's no other choice for me. I'll have to tell him yes..." Curling up my legs I hugged my knees to my chest. By telling Guufu yes I was betraying them both, but I don't want them to have to live in misery and pain anymore. Maybe just maybe this is the best for all of us...As I heard a knock at the door I looked up before saying, "You can come in."

"Hey shorty," Dark said grinning, "The boss is ready to hear your decision. Get up and follow me."

Sighing I bowed my head my hair covering both my eye as I spoke, "Right I'm ready." Standing I followed Dark through the palace halls to meet Guufu.

Before Dark could leave Guufu raised a hand, "No Dark stay here. So Shadow have you decided? Will you work for me or face the consequence I gave you."

Raising my head I swallowed the lump in my throat before saying those five words that ensured my betrayal, "I'll work for you Guufu."
