After hearing no sound that could indicate the presence of his adoptive father, Aleks soundlessly walked up the stairs to his room. He closed the door as carefully as he could manage and started looking for his suitcase in the mess he called his room.

He managed to find his suitcase in his closet and stuffed all his clothes inside as fast as he could.

His heart was thumping wildly and he couldn’t help jump at every little creak he heard. He kept looking over his shoulder, pausing his actions to listen for any footsteps. He hated being so paranoid but he was always this way around his father.

After his clothing was crammed in his baggage, he crept his way to the only bathroom, slowly dragging his luggage behind him, taking all his essentials in one hand and jammed them in.

He tiptoed out and started going back down to the first floor. But, of course, with his terrible luck, he tripped on the last step, causing him and his baggage to drop to the floor loudly.

He groaned and struggled to get up. He heard loud footsteps run down the stairs and practically jumped to his feet, rolling his luggage behind him while he ran to the door. Just as he was about to turn the handle, a hand gripped his hood and pulled him to the floor, practically chocking him.

He fell to the floor, coughing and clutching his chest in an attempt to get his breathing steady. His gaze shifted from the floor to the face he was dreading to meet, the one of his cocky abuser.

“Where you going, freak?”

He only coughed in response, not having enough air to speak yet, not that he was going to tell him anyway.

“Aw, did the poor little fuck-up forget how to speak?” he taunted.

He took a large breath and opened his mouth to snap something back before receiving a hard kick in the stomach, cutting him off from air again.

“That’s what I thought.”

He gasped to breath in the oxygen he desperately needed. Soon enough, when he was able to breathe normally again, he got up and balled his fists, looking at the only obstacle between him and the door.

“Get out of my way,” he commanded in a low tone, growling.

The heartless man chuckled, “What was that?”

“I said; get the fuck out of my way!”

“Oh yeah? Sure, I’ll get out of your way, right after I break every bone in your body!”

That said, he received the beating he was dreading. If he wasn’t already injured when he walked in, he could’ve kicked his father’s ass, but, unfortunately, his body was too weak to even try to fight back.

He got punched, kicked, thrown and pushed and there was nothing he could do about it but just stay on the ground and pray for him to stop, for him to be able to walk out and join his friends, for everything to be okay. But he wouldn’t text any of them; he didn’t want to risk them getting hurt because of his own problems.

So, he just stayed in the corner he was thrown into and took the beating, occasionally whimpering from the excruciating pain. He was sure that, even if his father did leave right then and there, he wouldn’t even have the strength to get back up.

He suddenly heard the door open harshly and from the corner of his eye, he could see Eddie standing in the doorway, fury clearly burning in his eyes.

“Get off of him.”

“And just who might you be?”

“Your worst nightmare.”

Eddie punched his father in the face, making the cracking of a broken nose resonate in the room.

“You motherfucker,” the monster insulted, grabbing him from the floor by the neck and squeezing.

“Aleks!” Sly yelled.

“Who is this, your boyfriend?”

He couldn’t even respond, the hold on his throat was barely loose enough for him to breathe.

“Let him go!”

“Why would you even want to save his pathetic ass? He’s a worthless freak.”

“He’s not pathetic or worthless or a freak!”

He could see father smirk from the corner of his eye and felt his eyes start to glaze over with tears.

If his father was doing what he thought he was, his world would end right before his eyes.

“Oh, he didn’t tell you? Well, keeping secrets isn’t nice, Aleks. I’m going to have to tell your friend here now, after all, he deserves to know,” his tormenter taunted again.

His oppressor turned to Eddie again, his grip on his throat tightening.

“You see, your little friend Aleks here, he’s a little different.”

“What do you mean?”

“Let me show you, and then you’ll understand.”

He felt his hand clutch his beanie and looked at his father with pleading eyes, mutely begging for him not to do it.

His beanie was roughly pulled off his head, revealing his freakish dog ears.

He felt his ears lay back on his head, trying to camouflage them.

He was thrown onto the floor harshly, gasping for air again. He dragged himself to the corner of the room, trying to distance himself from the other two males in the room as much as possible. He looked at Eddie’s shocked expression and whimpered, tears freely streaming down his face as he rolled himself up in a ball.

“You see, he’s nothing but a freak and a useless one at that.”

He felt lightheaded, all the pain finally being more than he could handle.

“Aleks!” he heard Eddie yell as he hit the ground as everything went black.
