“Fucking finally!” Seamus yelled as the bus started to slow down in order to stop at a bus stop a little farther than their house; while they were so in their conversation, they missed their stop and settled for getting off at the next one and walking.
They all stood up as the bus driver opened the entrance, waiting for them to get off. They didn’t hesitate to comply as they rapidly made their way out of the bus, letting the peculiar chilly air hit their faces.
“Damn, it’s cold as shit,” James pointed out, rubbing his hands together to warm them up.
Everyone muttered their agreements shakily because of the cold air. Unfortunately, winter was approaching quickly so the weather was changing rapidly from warm to freezing.
They tried to walk as quickly as they could to the cosy house, the cold making it less tempting to go any faster.
Aleks shivered, his hoodie not enough to keep him as warm as he would like. Despite his Russian origins, he hated the cold and would very much prefer to live somewhere with summer-like climate all year round. He was very sensitive to the frosty air and it was most likely the only reason he disliked winter so much. He enjoyed the perks accompanying the cold season, like snow and, of course, Christmas. It was odd actually, how he had always liked Christmas without celebrating it once; his orphanage never did, the scientists didn’t permit it and his ‘father’ never allowed it either, apparently he liked to use the season of giving as an excuse to give him extra beatings.
He sucked in a cold breath at the awful memories. They still had a small way to go before arriving and he couldn’t keep his teeth from chattering as he felt the cold get to him even more. He glanced in front of him, where Seamus and James where staying as close as possible to use their body heat for warmth, envying them slightly.
From the corner of his eye, he could see Eddie, who was walking next to him on the sidewalk, shivering madly. Unfortunately, since the weather was much warmer in the morning, he only had a shirt on and no sweater on any kind. He felt bad, seeing Eddie freezing cold like that, so he stopped walking, letting the others, who were walking in front of him, continue their way.
Eddie seemed to be the only one to notice as he stopped himself and looked back with a puzzled look.
He started taking off his sweatshirt, one sleeve at a time.
“Aleks, what are you doing?” Sly questioned, his head slightly tilted to the side.
The freezing dog-eared teen only responded by looking around for any other pedestrian and, upon seeing no one, he took it off completely before handing it to Eddie and stuffing his tail in his sweatpants instead. He shivered a little at the sudden contact with the cold air, but tried to hide it as best he could to make sure Sly would take his sweatshirt.
“Here, take it.”
“What? No! You’ll freeze your ass off!” Eddie exclaimed, speaking to him as if he had just turned completely insane.
He just shrugged simply, doing his best to act as if he was warm enough to walk to the house without his hoodie and offered it once more, his arm extended out more to insist.
“Just fucking take it, I’ll live.”
“No!” Sly repeated stubbornly, crossing his arms to emphasise his rejection of the offer.
He rolled his eyes, peeved by the other’s obstinacy and brought it as close as his arm permitted.
“Stop being a stubborn ass and take it before my arm freezes off.”
Eddie hesitantly grabbed it from his hand, quickly putting on. He continued walking, Sly close behind, to try and catch up with the guys who were now a pretty good distance away.
He rubbed his slightly red hands together and cupped them around his mouth to let out a warm breath to keep them tepid. Even though he was in fact colder than ever, he preferred to be suffering himself instead of his friend.
“You’re freezing, Aleks,” Eddie told him, informing him with the obvious.
“I’m not,” he tried to assure, teeth chattering again, making his voice shaky.
Eddie didn’t respond so he hoped he had taken his answer and just dropped it, but instead he felt one arm awkwardly making its way to his waist.
He looked at Eddie, completely shocked. Sly only smiled slightly with a very obvious blush on his face, pulling him closer.
“I’m not going to let you freeze to death, am I?”
As much as he wanted to protest to this, he did feel a lot warmer. He kept quiet and leaned into Eddie more, burying his face into his own hoodie with a fierce blush on his face.
He breathed in Sly’s peculiar scent as they slowly walked to the house, the Creatures already out of sight; since they weren’t very cold anymore, there wasn’t as much of a rush.
In the pit of his stomach, Aleks felt odd, in a good way. He had never experienced it, but he could tell it was good feeling. He felt as if butterflies were fluttering all around in his stomach and extremely happy at the same time. A strange combination, really, not to mention the fact that he felt very… at peace, in a way. He didn’t know what this feeling really was or if Eddie felt it too, but, for some reason, a part of him really hoped so.
They arrived to the house, opening the door and entering after an awkward and reluctant separation. At the entrance, James and Seamus were waiting with smirks on their faces.
“So, what was that?” Seamus inquired, his satisfactory smile growing larger.
“What was what?” Sly asked instead of answering, acting oblivious.
“The couple thing you two were doing, what was that?” James probed.
“I was just… Aleks offered me his hoodie and I took it. I didn’t want him to freeze his ass off so I did that to… keep him warm,” the Latino explained nervously.
“Yeah, sure. Sly, can we talk to you for a second?” the blonde one requested.
“Uh, sure?”
(Small switch to 3rd person P.O.V following Eddie)
He uncertainly followed his two friends to the next room, looking back at Aleks before fully entering.
“What did you two want to talk about?”
His sarcastic co-worker smiled knowingly. “You like Aleks, don’t you?”
He rubbed the back of his neck, avoiding both of their gazes as he tried to come up with a way to wipe away any suspicions about him and Aleks; I wasn’t something he was sure he wanted to talk about yet, not even to those two.
“Um, of course I like him; he’s a pretty cool dude.”
The couple both lifted their eyes skyward. “You know what we mean. Do you have a crush on Aleks?” James questioned.
He felt himself blush furiously. “No, I don’t!” he denied childishly.
James and Seamus looked at him with unimpressed stares, clearly not believing him.
He sighed and smiled sheepishly. “Is it really that obvious?”
“Aw, James! Our little Edwin has a crush!” Seamus exclaimed teasingly.
“They grow up so fast,” James added, falsely crying on his boyfriend’s shoulder.
“Shut up, he might hear you!” he yelled in a whisper, the red tint still very visible on his face. “You won’t tell anyone, right?”
“Of course not, man. Your obvious-as-fuck secret is safe with us,” James assured.
He smiled with a giggle. “Thanks.”
Hey everybody! Here's the chapter! By the way, just to clarify, Aleks is very oblivious to love, that's why he doesn't understand that 'feeling', but can you really blame the guy?
