Tobias POV:
The people coming out of the tents just stare at us. We don't really belong. For one, I have a infected gun shot wound, and no shirt on. Alos, all of us are all wearing black instead of the mix of colors that the factionless wear. We stick out like a sore thumb and that is not good being that the Erudite will be here soon.
My group just stays behind me as I walk through the rows and rows of tents. The dark wall towers above us, casting a large shadow on everything over this factionless camp. I walk by a tent and hear a voice that sounds like Marcus say " I don't know where the kid is, but a spy told me that he broke out of Erudite last night." That is defiantly Marcus.
I carefully lift the opening of the tent and slide through the opening. My friends come in behind me. Marcus, who was talking to Evelyn. My two parents just standing there staring at me.
Marcus comes to me and puts his hand on my shoulder. I think of all the times he beat me as a child. My own father, destroyed my childhood. The thoughts make me push his hand of my shoulder.
"Well we have a lot to talk about and we need an emergency meeting." Evelyn says as she is in a locked stare with Ryan.
"That is an understatement." I mutter to myself. There is so much Marcus and Evelyn are hiding. Especially being that I magically have a twenty year old brother as of twelve hours ago.
"Well, all of you come here, lets talk." Evelyn says to all of us. We all come closer to her, so that are talking can't be heard in other tents. Tris stands next to me and she laces her fingers with mine. At least I have Tris. She is like my own family, the kind that doesn't lie about something as big as Ryan.
I look at Ryan, and he looks at me. I nod my head in order to start talking. He looks down at the floor and starts talking.
"I came from outside the wall," he says really quiet. "I live in something called the United Republic. It's a big country outside of those walls. The United Republic is crumbling away, because of war and poverty. I'm a soldier, but not for the Republic. I'm trying to bring back the United States. I have this necklace because it was how the United states identified soldiers before everything fell apart. They are called dog tags." He lifts his necklace from his pocket and holds it in his hands. "In the Republic, a computer chip is planted in your arm when you are born in order to identify people living in The Republic. The computer chip in your arm stores every little tiny detail about your life and can be used to track you." he tosses his necklace to Marcus.
Marcus looks at the tags and then he turns whiter than a ghost. "What the......." The words just don't want to leave his mouth. He hands the tags to Evelyn.
Evelyn just puts her hand to her mouth and stands there like and empty shell. Tris looks at me and her face is all twisted and confused. I say, "Obviously there is a problem here. Not enough info"
"My name is Ryan Eaton. I am Tobias's older brother." His sad eyes meet mine.
"Why are you here Ryan?" Tris blurts out really annoyed.
"About a month ago the rebel forces invaded a underground science lab that The Republic was running. It contained information about an experiment that was being conducted in Chicago. It was to test a new different type of government. The Republic is trying to turn their government into what you have here in this Chicago. The project isn't going well obviously. You guys are at war. The government of The Republic had it's mind set on having a government like the one, so they turned the results into a lie. While we were in the lab, we found files on a few people with the last name as me. The rebels figured out that I came from Chicago. It made sense. When you become a rebel they take out the computer chip in your arm, so you can't be tracked or located. I didn't have a computer chip to take out. The only thing that made sense is that I came from this experiment. There was record of Marcus and Evelyn having a kid who disappeared. No record whatsoever of that kid two days after it was born." he completes his story.
