42: Awaken (pt.2)

August Pov

"August." Alicia's voice called out but it was to good to be true. I looked up with no doubt to be greeted with Alicia's hazel eyes staring back at me.

She looked as if she has found something she's been looking for her whole life. Her hair was still a mess. It was frizzy and still had blood stains at the root. Her face was pale like she had seen a ghost. You can tell she lost more weight because you could see her bony arms and chest. She clenched the hospital gown to her small frame.

Even though she looked extremely tired she stilled had a cute sense to her. She had that uneased vibe which wasn't so surprising.

"Baby....you remember who I am?" I asked thinking about what the doctor had said.

"Of course I remember you, how could I forget." she said smiling and giggling so I laughed back.

"Alicia baby, before we go any further I need to tell you I'm beyond sorry for what happened?" I said feeling real bad.

"What? What even happened? How I even get here?" she asked.

"I-" I had got cut off by nurse Tammy coming in.

She greeted me as usual then she realized Alicia was woke and her happiness began to pour.

"Well look who finally decided to join us." she laughed. Alicia returned the smile.

"I'm glad to be back." Alicia said looking at me.

"Trust us honey, ain't nobody is as happy as he is. Girl he been here every day visiting and he would stay for hours day in and day out. Trust me you got a good one on your hands, he's a keeper."

"I agree." Alicia winked at me while Nurse Tammy took the IV out her arm.

"Now miss Swenson before we can go any further, I need to let the doctor know your up and well. Then we can let y'all two love bird's go on about your day. Sounds fair?"

"Sounds fair." me and Alicia both answered.

There was a silence that over took the room after Tammy left. I thought about telling Alicia what had happened to Kasia but I don't know if she's ready for the news because it was all too over whelming for me. I gotta tell her sooner or later so might as well not hold back any secrets....

She broke the silence before I could.

" What's bothering you Aug?" she asked looking down at her bony arms.

I didn't say nothing because I wanted to figure out how do she know if something's wrong with me. I mean I don't let my feelings show at all especially when I feel like this.

"August Antony Alsina. I knew you for the last two and a half years of my life, and judging by all I've been trough with you, I know when something's bothering you. So you just go ahead and lay it all on the table, so what is it?" she asked looking me straight in the eyes.

I just stood still and tried my best to not show any emotions.

"You did it again, didn't you?.....who is she?" she asked but I was so caught of guard by what she was trying to imply.

"No. Man Alicia, it ain't even like that, I'm only devoted to you, I've learned my lession."

She smiled a week smile.

"August be straight with me."

Even though I didn't want to tell her I knew I had to and I can't seeing her like this.

"Baby Its Kasia...." I trailed off.

Alicia Pov

What do he mean it's Kasia? What happened? Where is she even at? I hope this isn't bad news, I just came out of this sleep and even though I feel well rested, my mind is not mentally ready for this. I just has a dream about my parents death, that's bad enough.

"What?" I couldn't make sense of the situation but I knew I had to keep it together or August won't tell me because he be on that over protective shit.

"Look baby there ain't no easy way to put this but......" he trailed off again which made me mad because I wanna know what the fuck is going on.

"Stop bullshitting and tell me!" I yelled not controlling my actions.

"Ok Kasia over dosed." he said fast.

"She over dosed? What are you even talking about?" I asked being denial.

"Alicia baby Kasia over dosed on drugs baby....the doctor said they found high levels of heroin and crack cocain in her system. They don't even know if she's gonna make it trough the night.....I wanted to tell as soon as you woke up but I didn't know how you would take it." he said while holding on to my leg.

"She's...She's not even...." the tears poured from my eyes like rain. It was hard for me to even finish my sentence.

"Its ok baby, she'll make it. Just have faith." Aug said while getting in the bed with me. He wrapped his arms around me tight.

"She's not even a addict. August she never touched drugs before. She's my best friend and I can't lose her, she's all the family I have left." I tried to fight back my tears but they won and got the best of me.

"Babe I know she is your best friend but things happen for a reason." he rubbed my shoulder.

"She more than my best friend August, she is my sister, brother, mother and father. I can't possibly lose her." I buried my face into his chest.

We say there in silence for about 30 minutes. I laid there with my eyes swollen red. I played with the string on August's shirt while thinking about my childhood.

I had lost so people in my life time. I Lost beloved family and friends and now here I am about to lose my last support system.

I can't believe in all this world that she has high levels of heroin and crack cocain in her system. It just don't add up to me. I honestly think someone had something to do with this. But who and why? I gotta get the bottom of that.
