The secret passages are just as I expected.
Dark, musty smelling, full of cobwebs. However they are cool, a place to get away from everything when a bedroom doesn’t prove to be enough. And even better for sneaking around if need be.
“They used to lead outside,” Adam tells me, talking quietly as his flashlight sweeps across the cobblestone floor. This school is ancient. “But they’re sealed shut. Not even I could open it.”
I laugh lightly and steady myself over a bump by holding onto the damp wall. “Because you are oh so strong.”
“Even stronger than Superman.”
“I believe you.”
And I do.
