“I want to apologize,” Adam says, walking steadily beside me. He’s looking at me despite the fact that we’re weaving through the evening crowds, trying to make our way through the maze of downtown. “I feel really bad about the other day. I wasn’t all there and didn’t think that something was wrong.”

I wave my hand, the past been and gone. “You don’t need to apologize for anything, Adam. You did nothing wrong.”

He frowns. “Then why did you leave?”

“I didn’t feel well.” I purse my lips, not wanting to say any more.

“Regardless,” he continues, “I’m buying you a drink tonight. I know a place that doesn’t card.”

I roll my eyes but I’m smiling. “And I don’t even have to show my boobs?”

            “Only if you want to.”

I shove him playfully and a few passerby’s glare at us. “Well, I’m not one to say no to a free drink.”

I smile and he slings his arm around me. “I like you, Piper. I’m glad you jumped off a bridge after all.”
