Adam’s eyes go from my encased wrist to Scooter and in only a second he’s shoving him away, prying his grasp from me.

“Get off her, man! What the fuck is wrong with you?” Once the hand is loosened Adam shoves Scooter away and into the alley beside the bar. I start to wonder if Scooter lives on the streets. “Leave her the fuck alone before I call the cops.”

Scooter smirks, letting Adam push him. “And I’m sure they’ll have no problem seeing that two underage kids are drunk.”

Adam doesn’t have a response and pushes him again, forcing him into the brick wall of the alleyway. I don’t know if he has much experience with this. I know he supposedly beat up a teacher, but compared to Roman, his movements are awkward and unsure.

“I dare you,” Scooter says, laughing. When Adam hesitates, his fist raised in the air, ready to strike, Scooter just grins. “Come on. What are you waiting for? Throw the first punch. We’ll see who gets the last.”

Just as Adam was about to strike, Scooter had sucker punched him, instantly bringing blood to Adam’s face. I flinched as Scooter whirled around, throwing my supposed savior into the wall and reversing their positions. As Adam tried to fight back, Scooter continued punching him, opting for his stomach rather than his already bloody face.

I couldn’t stand around and let Adam get beat up – even if he’s an ass.

Rushing towards them, adrenaline pumping, I tried to pry them apart.

“Stop!” I hoped my desperate voice was loud enough to bring other people over to help. “Stop it! You’re hurting him!”

Scooter shoved me away and I begin to fall, but before the world completely turns sideways, someone catches me.
