Melanie's POV
"Would you just talk to me?" Justin groaned next to me.
"Go to sleep Justin, you're going to wake up Alana." I mumbled into the pillow.
I heard him sigh. "Fine, but we're talking tomorrow."
"Yeah, only if you're home still." I muttered to myself. With that, I fell asleep with Alana in the middle of Justin and I.
---------
"Baby, can you get that for me?" I pointed at the notepad on the table. We were going to the grocery store since we needed to be prepared for her first day of pre-school. Justin wasn't here again... big surprise.
Alana handed me the list with a smile, "Oh mommy, can you get cookies too?!" She asked my excitedly.
I smiled at her, "Of course babygirl. But first we have to get the food we need for your lunches when you start school!" I said excitedly. Usually, parents would be upset when their child is starting for school but I'm actually happy for Alana. She's growing up.
"Oh yeah. Mommy, I'm going to make a lot lot lot of friends at school!" She giggled.
I kissed her on the forehead, "I'm sure you will baby. Especially with that cute smile of yours." I smiled at her while pinching her cheeks making her giggle even louder. We got into the car all buckled up and headed over to the store.
After getting situated with the kart and everything, Alana and I were looking down the aisles, searching for the food we needed. "MOMMY! LOOK!" She screamed jumping up and down. "Can we get that?! Daddy likes that member?!" I had to shush her since she was yelling.
I read the lable and it was indeed Justin's favorite. It was cute how Alana remembered everything about Justin even though she barely sees him. "Okay, baby. Just don't yell anymore okay?" She nodded as she grabbed the pack of cookies and reached in the kart as she threw them in.
--------
I drove down the street and noticed Justin's Range Rover parked in our driveway. "What the hell is he doing here?" I muttered to myself as I parked the car next to his. Alana helped me grab the bags in the truck as we walked in. I was surprised when were greeted by an quiet house. "Just put that on the table honey." I told Alana as she carried the smallest bag.
"Can I eat the cookies now mommy?" I was about to say yes when she scared me by yelling. "Daddy!" I turned around to see Justin shirtless with just basketball pants on.
"Hey sweetheart!" She ran into his arms. I completely ignored him and continued to put away the food in the cabinets. "Go play upstairs and I'll go there later okay? I'm going to talk to mommy." I heard him say followed by light footsteps going up the stairs.
"Hey babe." He said while walking towards me.
I didn't say a word.
He sighed, "Look I'm sorry I wasn't here in the morning and I'm sorry for yelling at you last night."
All you can hear was the sound of the cabinets opening and closing as I placed certain foods in them.
"Can you please say something?" He asked me while grabbing my hand.
I stopped as his hand came in contact with mine, "Are you going?" I asked him, finally turning to look at him.
He paused. "No.." He said with guilt in his eyes.
"Of course not." I pulled away from him, tying the empty plastic bags and putting them in the bin.
"I'm sorry okay? I talked to Scooter about it and apparently, he booked a flight to New York so I can promote my new album." He tired to reason with me.
"Wow, and how long are you going to be gone for that?" I asked while crossing my arms. This was going too far, I'm sick of him not being here for his family.
He hesitated, noticing my tone, "A week." I looked at him with a blank stare for about a minute until I turned away to make Alana her snack, not saying a word to him. "Wai-" I cut him off.
"You can tell Alana that you're not going to be there for her on her first of school! I'm tired of telling her how her own dad can't be there for her anymore!" I yelled as tears fell from my face.
Justin's POV
"Baby." I wispered, as I tried walked closer to her.
She shook her head, with her back turned to me and her arms wrapped around her waist. I could hear her soft sobs. "Don't. Justin."
I gently placed my hand on her shoulder, "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for it to go this far." Tears forming in my eyes.
She nudged off my hand, turning to finally face me. My heart broke as the tears kept falling from her face. "You always say that." She paused, quickly wiping her tears. "Why do you keep doing this Justin? You have your daughter to look after. She's way more important than your career." She said softly.
"I know that baby." I grabbed her hands and intertwinded them with mine. "But.. I've worked so hard to get in this positio--"
I was caught off when Melanie pulled away from me. "Please, just stop. Your apologies and excuses are always the same. It's the same routine everyday Justin and I'm so tired of it." She muttered. "It's either you start putting your family first and career second, or Alana and I are gone." And with that, she walked away.
I sighed in frustration and ran my hand through my hair and walked upstairs. I didn't know what to do. I can either walk away, talk to Alana and tell her I can't be with her on her first day, talk to Melanie and apologise, or talk to Scooter and tell him to cancel everything.
I decided to walk away. From everything. I was tired of disappointing my family and the people I love. I walked out the door and got in my car, going where ever the road took me. Melanie just doesn't understand. I want to be there for her and Alana but my career. I've worked so hard just to get here. But I guess she does have a reason for telling me to choose. I sighed and slammed my hand on the car door. I guess it is true...
