Melanie's POV
My hand shook as I tightly gripped the pen in my hand and slowly signed my name on the divorce papers. I can't believe I'm actually doing this. This is actually happening.
"Mommy can I color too?" Alana asked me making my jump up from shock.
I turned around from the chair and quickly tried to calm myself down. "What?"
"I want to color too!" She said excitedly and sat down next to me and examined the papers I was writing on. Her face tilted in confusion as she saw the papers full of words.
I sighed. "Mommy's not coloring right now baby. Go watch tv in the living room okay? I asked her in a distressed voice.
She nodded and climbed off the chair and ran off into the living room. "Mkay!"
I took a deep breath in and went back to reading the papers carefully. I closed my eyes, tiredly.
Flashback:
"Marry me." Justin said as he kneeled down. He had hope in his eyes yet was still smiling brightly at me.
I gasped as I covered my mouth. "Justin. Yes. A million times yes!" I said with so much happiness.
Justin took a minute to take everything in and finally slipped the ring on my finger and stood up. He brought me into his arms, chuckling in excitement. "We're getting married." He said breathless. He pulled away from me and yelled "WE'RE GETTING MARRIED EVERYONE!" at the top of his lungs.
I giggled. "I can't believe it!" I said, looking at his brown eyes.
He calmed down and smiled at me. "I love you baby. I'll never let you go."
"I love you too." I reached up and kissed him on the lips. This was perfect.
"Forever baby."
End of Flashback
I let out a sob as I remembered the day he asked me to marry him. We were on a picnic to celebrate our 3 year anniversary. I know. A picnic? We couldn't decide where to go so he just brought to this hill that he found. It was beautiful. It overlooked the city and we watched the sunset together. I still remember it as if it happened yesterday. That was a special day for us.
Who knew it would all end up to this. I was halfway done signing the divorce papers. I didn't dare touch the custody papers. I don't know. I couldn't bring myself to even look at it.
I heard talking in the living room. It was Alana and Justin. I prayed to god that he wouldn't come in here but of course, I heard footsteps coming my way. I guess god hates me too.
I heard him come in and suddenly stopped when he saw me. He continued his way to the fridge and walked back over to me. He cleared his throat but I still didn't look at him. "Um." I heard him gulp. "You're signing 'em?" He asked.
What do you think? I thought. I didn't acknowledge him. I simply brought the pen up and signed my name and turned to the next page.
"Okay." He said.
He stayed there for a few minutes, making me uncomfortable. "Can you please just go?" I asked, trying to be polite.
He sighed. "I'll just be in the living room with Alana."
When the sound of his footsteps vanished, I looked back and saw nothing. I looked down to the ring that was on my finger. I slowly took it off and sighed.
Justin's POV
"Bye Alana! I'll see you later okay sweetheart?" I said as I leaned down to kiss her chubby cheek.
