Justin's POV

I scrubbed the dirty dishes clean as I listened to Alana's excited chatter about her friend's "dirty little secret." A grin stayed on my face the whole time. This girl. I swear, she will be the death of me. Her feet swung back and forth as she sat comfortably on the counter right next to the sink where I was cleaning.

"--and then guess what?" She exclaimed.

"What princess?" I asked in between laughs.

"She kissed him!" She yelled and I almost dropped the plate I was currently washing.

"What." I blurted out and looked at her.

With a bright smile that lightened up her whole face, she nodded excitedly. "Uh huh!"

I thought about it for a second to let it process in my head. "Huh." I huffed and continued to scrub once again. "Who is this friend of yours again?" I questioned.

"Andrea." She retorted happily.

"And who is the boy she kissed." I said almost bitterly. I could already tell she was bad influence. 4 years old or not, it doesn't matter. Girls that young shouldn't even be near boys to be doing that type of stuff. I was definitely going to have a little talk with Andrea's parents about this.

"I don't know. But I heard he's really nice." She giggled.

"No." I instantly stopped her. "No he is not nice." I said sternly and turned off the sink when I was finally done. "And so isn't your friend Andrea." I included. "She's not coming your to party." I told her and her face instantly fell. And I mean, fell.

"Why? She's my friend?" She let out sadly.

I shook my head. "She shouldn't be kissing boys Alana. And so shouldn't you." I pointed my finger at her. "Do you understand?"

She pouted. "Is it a bad thing to do?" She said in a very soft voice. Something she did when she knew she was in trouble.

"Yes. Very bad. And I promise you, Alana. If I even hear that you've been with a b--"

"Okay, Justin." A voice sang behind me, stopping me. Delicate hands held onto my shoulders. "That's enough for tonight." She said in between laughs.

I turned when she let go of me and saw her walking over to Alana to grab her. "Did you hear her?" I let out in disbelief.

"Yes, I did. And I believe I heard her saying that Andrea kissed a boy." She pointed out with a grin.

Alana now clung onto her as Melanie held her up against her. "Doesn't matter. Andrea's her friend." I told her. "They're 4 years old Mel." I breathed out. "I don't want my daughter to be.. kissing boys or doing anything that migh--"

"Justin." Melanie stopped me as she laughed at loud. "Okay, okay I get it." She said and looked at Alana. "Do you?"

"Mhm!" She nodded. "I understand daddy. No kissing boys!" She smiled proudly.

Pride and relief bursted inside of me. "That's my girl." I leaned in and kissed her forehead. "Now go upstairs and take a shower, stinky." I joked.

"Hey!" She frowned as Melanie turned to take her away as she laughed.

"He's just kidding Alana." I heard her say. "He's the stinky one." She whispered but loud enough for me to hear her. I was about to argue but she had already left. I shook my head and chuckled to myself. My family, everyone.

After finishing up the kitchen, I turned off the lights and head down to my studio to grab my guitar. Tonight's the night. I'm finally playing the song that I've written when Melanie and I were in the middle of getting a divorce. I don't know if this will be a good thing or a bad thing since I know this will only bring up those bad memories but I hope she gets the message and we'll finally get to move on from everything that we've been through.
