Chapter 7
“He must have slipped into her body towards the end of the light.” Edna mumbled pacing my room. I sat on the bed holding McKayla, not letting her out of my grip. “So far he’s only strong enough to take over her body when she’s asleep. Nevertheless, over time, he’ll grow stronger and at first, he’ll be able to take over for small amounts of time when she’s awake. But, eventually he’ll be able to completely take over her, pushing her to the back.” Edna’s thinking aloud and pacing was beginning to irritate me.
“What do we do? And how long do we have?” I hissed between clenched teeth.
“Exorcism and I don’t know, maybe month or so.” She answered stopping her pacing.
“I take it we need a priest?” Kevin asked sarcastically and half jokingly.
McKayla and the rest of the council and I turned our attention fully on Edna. Priests to us are only ordinary humans, but to have to rely on an ordinary human was not our way of doing things. Edna may have been human, but she was witch, setting her up a step higher than most humans were.
“Or you could use a monk, a healer or shaman. Either way those who are religious are the ones trained to do such things.” Edna said
“Well, surely King Ethan knows or could get someone to do it.” Josephine spoke with confidence.
“Thank you so much, Josephine for the large amount of-faith, in me. Even if I found one, majority of them believe we’re part of the damned. You can’t possibly expect me to trust them.” I argued I was not about to risk losing her again to him. “There must be another way.”
“The way I see it, we don’t have a choice.” Lucas spoke.
The members of the council that don’t normally speak were beginning to speak up. I knew McKayla meant a lot to them. I glanced down at McKayla in my lap, she was asleep. I quickly shook her back awake. I didn’t want to hear Lance again. I didn’t want him to hurt her again.
“If you continue to wake her, her body’s going to succumb into a deep sleep that you won’t be able to wake her out of. It is then Lance can get through. Just let her sleep, when she starts lashing and screaming then wake her that is when he is pulling through.” Edna warned and explained.
I didn’t want to see her screaming and lashing like before ever again. However, I didn’t have the choice, she was right and her body will eventually give in to comatose sleep. I pulled the blanket from her waist up to her chin and leaned back against the wall behind our bed. Everyone sat quietly waiting for another episode as I was digging in her head watching for dreams.
“I know someone.” King Dracula spoke softly, standing in the doorway. I don’t know how he found out about this but, I didn’t care. I trusted him more than anyone else.
“Who?” I asked gazing back down to McKayla‘s sleeping body. I began playing with her hair while continuing to watch for any dreams she may have.
“Him,” I shot my look back to King Dracula, he brought someone with him. He reached to side of the door and pulled a man by the back of his neck into view.
“A slave?” I questioned in doubt.
King Dracula shrugged his shoulders smiling, “a child molester.” I couldn’t believe he was serious. “He was a priest.” My look of doubt continued as he watched my reaction. “He is more than obedient. He listens, and I guarantee his safety.”
“When?” I gave in, I had no choice.
“When would you like?” King Dracula smiled in success.
