Chapter 13
I held McKayla tight, trying to suck up as much of her pain as possible. I excused everyone but Jay, Brady and Serena. The noise from the bathroom and closet slowed down to a stop. I assumed Alexis and Michael wore themselves to sleep, but I was not about to have the doors opened to make sure. Sarah walked in the room looking for McKayla, oblivious to what was happening. Her eyes grew large as she started screaming, “What did you do to her?” Jay bolted up yanking her from the room. He came back a little while later. He had to lock her in his room. She too was fighting to get to me. After a while I moved back onto the bed, leaning against the wall. I curled McKayla up between my legs, resting her head on my chest, still holding her tightly. Jay, Brady and Serena were lounging in the living area in front of the television. We all were waiting patiently for McKayla to come back around as my blood slowly dripped into her.
I laid for hours fighting to hold my cold disciplined posture. This was for her own good. I continued to suppress the guilt that kept trying to fill every empty void in my body. She could not run back to him. I pushed against the anger that would persist to rise. He told her nothing, but lies. This is entirely his fault. I hid the sympathy that lingered deep down inside. I never meant to cause her agony. I only wanted to subdue her, to stop her from jeopardizing her and the kids’ lives. Alex must be messing with her head. He is up to no good and she’s too out of it to know any better.
McKayla weakly moved her legs out, pushing herself up and closer into me. She was still asleep, but now had the strength to move. Jay, Brady and Serena turned their heads around to see she had moved. I pulled the needle from my neck, before removing the tube from her throat. She inhaling deeply, taking in my scent as I bit my wrist once more, and placing it over her lips. I had to get her to take in more blood, before everything came crashing back to her. She gripped my arm and hand firmly, greedily drinking in big gulps, just as I hoped she would.
She only drank for a few minutes before her memories came back in a jolt. She rapidly jumped up, pulling painfully hard on her chains as she tried to escape away from me. She broke an arm free from her chains, lashing out at me as I reached for her. Her nails glided across my cheek, drops of warm blood followed them. I whipped out from behind her catching her hand as she went to strike me again. Jay and Serena had a hold of her legs and Brady had her other arm. They were growling viciously towards her. She began to screech in pain, I search the eyes of Jay, Serena and Brady. They were all blazing red, except for Jay. His eyes were black as coal. “Jay, knock it off,” I shouted and his eyes returned to matching everyone else’s blazing red and her screeching stopped. She gave up fighting, knowing she would never win against all of us. She watched me intensely, her breathing was panicked and bloody tears flowed down her face.
Alexis and Michael started yelling from the bathroom and closet again for their mother. “Carefully bring the kids back out, they all need see that they’re all okay. I‘ve got McKayla from here.” I said intensely staring back at McKayla. Jay, Brady and Serena hesitated letting her go. “You’re going to behave, right?” I asked her. She slightly nodded her head yes.
Her stare shifted to Michael as Serena and Brady carried him out kicking. “Where do you want him?” Brady asked.
I kept my stare on McKayla, watching for any sudden movements. “Chain him to the wall by the door. Jay you can put Alexis there too.” Alexis had surrendered to Jay, walking on her own with her head hung low. But I knew she could flip at any moment.
McKayla returned her intense stare back to me. Her breathing was still panicked, but her tears slowed. I took my free hand and wiped away her tears, “See baby, everyone is okay and I don’t want to hurt you, but I will if it‘ll save your life. So please stop making me.” I pleaded with her. “Michael, Alexis, the same goes for you both.” All three of them broke their stares towards me, looking down to their feet. They all surrendered.
