Chapter 31: Undecided and Underestimated

“Sorry to break up this love fest baby cakes, but I need to borrow your man for a minute. Jack do you think you could get a nurse and Alec for me? I’m still trying to talk him into threatening those cafeteria workers to cook better food, and I have to piss like fucking race horse!” The all too familiar and severely fucked up but sorely missed voice called out, just before the curtain was yanked open revealing my other best friend.

 I couldn’t have been happier to see Mira looking a damn sight better than the last time I had seen her. A pleasant feeling washed over me, as if for the first time since this ordeal began months ago, that things were finally starting to go in favor of a Fenix and Jade love connection.

Chapter 31: Undecided and Underestimated

"Was that necessary Mira?"Alec asked as he shuffled back into the room followed by Nash and April.

I was ecstatic to see that April was looking much better than the last time I’d seen her. She almost looked unharmed, apart from the hint of bandages protruding from the collar of her shirt and bottom of the sleeves. Horrific images flashed in my head and reminded me of what had transpired. Mira and April bound and bloodied, their nearly lifeless bodies caught in a torturous device that was put into action by Soren to torment me, to make me pay for leaving him and refusing to marry him.

My attention turned to Mira who scolded Alec with her bluish grey eyes, as he sat next to her at waist level on her hospital bed. She looked like death, like a zombie brought back to life with wrappings and bandages all up and down her arms and monitors, tubes and wires coming off of her in every direction. This is what I had done to my friends, people I loved, by getting involved with Soren.

"What? When you gotta piss, you gotta piss. I'm not a damn camel, I can’t hold liquid in my hump. Damn Alec, I'd think you'd be a little nicer considering that I almost died." She replied quickly and gave Alec a small shove in the shoulder followed by a poke in the ribs.

Alec rolled his eyes and smacked her leg gently in response. If I didn't know any better, with the way these two were acting lately, I'd say they had something going on. It couldn't be though, because Alec and Mira, although they were well suited for each other, just wouldn't think of it. At least, I didn't think they'd be so practical as to do things the easy way and go for the obvious match right in front of their eyes. But something about the way they interacted had me raising an eyebrow. They seemed far more playful then they ever had before.

Not a moment later, April came forward and greeted her sister with an embrace. She looked haggard, as though she hadn't seen sleep in a year but looked otherwise much the same as always. My guess was that she wasn’t sleeping because of nightmares, or flashbacks of the torture. Her black hair with purple streaks was down to help hide the bandages I'd guess. She was guarded and worn looking, even I could see that, and apparently I'd been in a coma.

Guilt washed over me yet again, as I stared up at my friends and wondered how the hell everything had gotten so out of control. It was my fault, all of it and I had to put a stop to it, no matter what it took. Soren had gone too far this time and I wasn't willing to back down now that everyone aside from Alec, had been his victim. I couldn't let the same fate befall Alec as well, so we had to devise a plan. The wheels started turning in my head as idea after idea of how we could end Soren's torment popped in. It must have shown on my face because Fenix, Nash and Alec all commented unexpectedly.

"No." They all said, while staring at me like I was crazy and perhaps I was.

"What?" I asked innocently, putting forth my best 'I have no idea what you're talking about face'.
