Three days passed. Three days of silence. Three days filled with paranoia.
Corrine seemed to always be on edge, and it bothered Luke greatly that she was upset, and afraid. Corrine hated being in school, and every second, Luke caught her glancing at the clock, almost as if she was waiting for something to happen. Something horrible.
Wednesday afternoon, when school let out, Luke decided he'd had enough. He dragged Corrine away from the group so he could talk to her. "What's up?" he said, when they were alone.
"I don't understand the question."
"Cory, you look like you're waiting for World War III to happen. What's going on in that mind of yours?" he asked. Corrine sighed.
"Is it that obvious?" she asked. Luke nodded. "I'm afraid something's going to happen. That Amelia or Joey are going to do something and someone else is going to end up hurt."
"Nothing is going to happen. To anyone." Luke said. "I promise to keep you safe."
"I-"
"No buts. Besides, you're worrying to much. It's not a good look for you." Corrine smiled.
"I know I worry to much. But it that a crime?"
"No, but you look like you're insane, and whenever you look over at the clock, it's like you're listening to thousands of voices in your head. It's freaky."
"Sorry." Corrine said. "I'm just nervous."
"Yeah, you need a distraction. Come on." Luke grabbed her hand.
"W-What? Where are you taking me."
"Come on." Luke said. "Trust me."
"Um . . . HELP!"
Luke laughed as he wiped some ice cream off his girlfriend's nose. "So? Having fun?" Luke asked her. Corrine took another bite of her ice cream and nodded.
"Yes. Thank you."
"You're welcome my lady." Luke said, bowing as best as he could in a sitting position.
"My lady? Where did this come from?"
"I don't know. I'm just trying to make you smile." Luke said.
"Mission accomplished My Lord." Corrine teased.
"Why don't we make it King Luke." Luke said, puffing out his chest.
"How about no." Corrine said.
"Aw! Cory!" Luke whined. Corrine laughed, scooting closer to him on the bench.
"Aw, Luke!" she mocked. Luke frowned. "You love me." Corrine giggled, throwing out the garbage. Luke came up, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"I do." he said, kissing her neck. "I love you so so much." Corrine turned so that she could face him, snaking her arms around his neck, pulling him closer to him. Luke rested his forehead against hers.
"As do I." she replied. "Although to be honest, I didn't think I'd ever love you." Corrine said.
"Why's that?"
"Because I hated you. Growing up you were always mean to me."
"I'm sorry about that. But in my defense, you were a really weird child."
"Thanks. That's what every girl wants their boyfriend to tell them."
"It's true. To be honest, out of us four guys, the only one who thought you were normal was Michael. He thought it was normal for kids to colour on the notebooks."
