The doctors was the last place I wanted to be today. Sure, Dr. Glenn was really nice to me and all, but I still hate it here.
While we were waiting for the receptionist to call us up, I texted Josh and Jenna an a group chat. I knew they were in class, but they replied right away anyways. We talked about nothing for what felt like a million years before she called us and led us to Dr. Glenn's office. We waited for another ten minutes before she actually showed up.
"Hello, everyone. How're we doing today?" Dr. Glenn asked in a tired voice.
"Fine." I mumbled in response. Mom gave me a look and answered the doctor in a more cheery voice.
"We're doing good, and you, doctor?"
The doctor smiled. "Fine, thank you, Mrs. Joseph." I rolled my eyes.
She grabbed her clipboard from the counter and went to sit at her desk. She flipped through some sheets then stopped and looked me in the eyes. "How are you, seriously, Tyler?"
I shrugged. She gave me a knowing look and nodded.
"Mrs. Joseph, could you please leave us alone for a few minutes? I'll come and get you when we're done talking."
Mom nodded and walked out of the room. As soon as she left, Dr. Glenn asked me the question again.
"I don't know. I never know." I mumbled.
She sighed. "How're things going in your head?"
I shrugged.
"Tyler.." She started; I cut her off before she could finish.
"Things are good and bad, okay! It depends on the day!" I snapped.
She scribbled something down on her clipboard quickly, nodding. "Is he still as bad?"
Rolling my eyes, I gave a vague answer. "Again, it depends on the day. He's been pretty active lately and he's been fighting a lot. Things have gotten physical a few times." I mumbled the last part.
"How physical?"
"He hit slapped Maddy and punched Zack."
"How bad was the aftermath?"
"What do you mean?"
"How bad were the hits? Were there bruises, if so, how long did they last?"
"Zack had a little bruise and a swollen spot. Maddy had a red hand print on her cheek for the rest of the night."
"Did this all happen in one day?"
I slowly nodded. Dr. Glenn nodded too and scribbled something down again.
"I know I already asked you this, but the voices.. How.. Bad are they?" She asked.
"Blurryface's as usual, but the other two are starting to get bad again. They were really bad yesterday while I was watching Jay."
"How bad?"
"Not ninth grade bad, if that's what you're referring to. They're just getting more rude and they get upset easier. They don't take my side or encourage me anymore. They just kinda... Yell at me.."
"Do they yell at you the same way that Blurryface does?"
"No they aren't that mean or pushy."
Hey! Watch it!
I rolled my eyes at him, the doctor gave me a funny look. "Don't worry about it." I mumbled.
Why shouldn't she worry about it?
You already tell her everything, why not this? She's like a walking diary to you.
"That's her job." I said sternly.
Her job isn't a therapist.
She's a doctor not a pillow that you cry into.
"Stop."
Why would we do that?
Yeah, the parties just starting.
"I'm serious, quit it!" I yelled standing up and pounding at my temples.
"Tyler, are you alright?" Dr. Glenn asked.
"I'm fine!" I snapped again.
"Calm down, Tyler. Just sit down."
"No! I can't sit down! I need to move!"
"Move where?"
"Around! Anywhere! I just need to move!"
"Can you tell me what's going on in your head please?"
"They're... They're... Ugh!" I ran to a corner, still pounding my temples as I slid my back down the wall.
Dr. Glenn came to my side and took one of my hands. "Tyler, what can I do to help?"
"I don't know!!"
"Who or what usually helps with this kind of thing?"
"Jenna.." I mumbled, putting my head between my legs.
"Who?"
"Jenna."
"Who's that?"
"One of my best friends. Her and Josh usually help me through this stuff. Ugh!!"
Nobody's helping you now, Tyler.
Nobody.
Nobody. Not now. You're ours now.
I groaned again. I saw Dr. Glenn stand up to get mom out of the corner of my eye.
"Oh my gosh, Tyler! Are you alright?" Mom asked.
"No!! They're yelling and telling me nobody can help me!!"
"What can we do to help, Tyler?" Dr. Glenn asked.
I shook my head rapidly. "I don't know!!"
"He said Jenna and Josh usually help him?" Dr. Glenn told mom.
"Yeah, the last time this happened, or something close to this, they brought him home and stayed with him the whole time."
"Do you think we could get them to come help?"
"Josh has a spare right now." I barely spoke the words at an audible tone.
"What about Jenna?" Mom asked softly.
"I don't know. Text them."
"Wha-"
"My phone, I'll text them."
Dr. Glenn handed me my phone and I opened the messages up quickly.
