"Tyler! Get up, the game starts at 11 and we gotta leave at 8!" Zack called waking me up.
I sat up and sleepily reached for my phone. It was 6:30 am, so I wasn't really expecting any messages, but to my surprise there were a few messages in the group chat from Jenna and Josh.
Jenna: The games at 11, right?
Josh: Yeah
Jenna: You know where it is?
Josh: Not a clue.
There were a few before that, but I'd already seen them. These messages were sent less than half an hour ago. Why were they up so early?
Me: Why're you guys up so early?
Jenna: Don't worry about it
Josh: The games in Westerville, isn't it?
Me: Why?
Josh: Don't worry about it
Jenna: Can you answer the question?
Me: Yeah, its in Westerville
Why?Josh: Don't worry about it
I rolled my eyes and locked my phone while I made my way down stairs. I walked into the kitchen, throwing my phone on the table, and grabbing a box of cereal.
"Don't eat all the cereal, I wanted some too!" Zack said, playfully bumping into me.
"I'll eat what I want." I joked, giving him a light shove.
Just as I started pouring the cereal, Zack hit the box out of my hand with one hand and caught it with the other. He smirked and stuck his tongue out at me while he poured his own bowl.
I smacked the box out of his hand, which led to us fighting over the box. It eventually turned into a wrestling match on the kitchen floor which mom had to break up before we woke up Mady, Jay, and dad.
"Seriously? Over cereal?" Mom asked, crossing her arms.
"We were just kidding around." Zack mumbled.
"Still, cereal?"
"Better than actually fighting over something serious." I said quietly.
Mom rolled her eyes. "Just eat and get dressed please."
I picked the box up from the floor and finished filling the bowl before I threw it at Zack. He fumbled it for a second then caught it.
"I hope you can catch better than that at the game today." I bugged.
Zack glared at me and finished filling his bowl too.
We kept bugging each other while we ate and on the drive to Westerville.
When we got to the gym, we saw the rest of our team waiting for us.
"How long have you guys been waiting?" Zack asked.
"Like five minutes." Karl blandly stated. He never had much emotion when he spoke unless we won a game. Then he'd get super excited, obviously.
"How much time till the game starts?" Finn asked.
"Half an hour-ish. Why?" I answered.
"Let's get something to eat quick before we have to warm up!"
We all laughed and agreed on getting some fries at the closest spot.

We'd finished warming up and people were starting to come in to watch. I mindlessly scanned the crowd just to pass time until the game actually started and saw Jenna and Josh sitting in a corner talking to each other.
I got up and walked over to them. "What're you guys doing here?" I asked, surprised that they were even here.
"We're here to watch you, dummy." Jenna said jokingly.
I smiled at them. "I thought it was weird you guys were up so early."
"We wanted to come cheer you on! This is the game that could put you through to the championships, isn't it?" Josh asked.
I nodded. "You guys really didn't have to come though."
"We wanted to." Jenna shrugged.
We kept talking until our coach called me over. He gave us the quick little 'good luck, try your best' thing and sent us off to play.
°°°°
We lost the game by 2 points. The team was pretty upset about losing, but we tried to not let it get to us. We'd still won enough games that we could make it to championships, but only if we could prove that we were good enough to go.
Obviously your team isn't good enough or you would have won the game.
"Shut up. We tried our best." I mumbled.
Your best isn't good enough for championships.
"Yeah, yeah."
You don't even get ice cream! Why are you being so cocky?
"Cause we're still gonna go to championships."
Whatever. If you even make it you'll probably throw the game for your team like you did today.
"What're you talking about? I didn't throw the game."
Well you lost it for the team.
"Its not my fault!"
No, you're right. Its the lights fault for getting in your eyes and messing up your shot.
"That's not what happened and you know it." I left the change rooms and went towards where Josh and Jenna were waiting for me.
Whatever.
"Hey." I greeted, ignoring Blurry's stupid comments.
"Hey." They both said. Jenna flashed a small smile which I returned.
"Sucks that you guys lost." Josh said.
"Yeah.. Especially when we worked so hard to get here."
"Any chance you guys can still get to championships?"
I nodded. "Yeah, we just have to prove we're good enough to go."
"How's that gonna work if you don't have anymore games?" Jenna asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Someone's coming to one of our practices at some point to evaluate us and see if we can go."
She nodded.
"Um..." I started, looking at the floor and rubbing the back of my neck.
I'd been trying to ask this for a while, but I've never found the right time. And this still wasn't the right time, but I needed to get the question out. I glanced up at Jenna to see her looking at me, smiling again.
"Yeah?" She asked.
I looked back down to the floor and heard her giggle softly. I gave her a joking glare. "Never mind. I'll text you."
A look of disappointment flashed across her face, but she quickly hid it and nodded.
I felt kind of bad about not asking her there, but it seemed like it would be easier to just text her tonight.

After supper, I finally plucked up the smallest bit of courage to ask Jenna out. I took out my phone and quickly typed the message.
Me: What I was trying to ask you earlier was if you wanted to see a movie tomorrow?
I looked at the message for a minute before reluctantly pressing send. She responded almost right away.
Jenna: Sure, I'd love to!
I smiled. Mostly because she said yes, but also because Blurryface had been quiet most of the day. I was hoping he'd stay quiet until at least Saturday so I could enjoy the movie with Jenna.
Don't get your hopes up.
