Leaving

Tyler's POV

I shuddered at the memories of ninth grade that came flooding back to me.

"Ty, you okay?" Jenna asked.

I nodded. "Peachy."

I heard Josh laugh softly while Jenna just gave me a joking glare.

"Seriously though, what just happened?" She laughed.

"Just remembering the worst year of my life."

Josh and Jenna both gave me an annoyed, yet sympathetic look. Annoyed because it was a horrible year for them too, and sympathetic because they probably felt bad.

"Guys, don't worry about it." I stated, shrugging my shoulders.

They both sighed and took out the homework they brought for me. It wasn't much, just English, math, and science work. Nothing out of the ordinary. They gave me a quick run down of what to do, then said they had to leave.

Once they were gone, I sat back and tried watching a little TV, but because he hates me, Blurryface started blabbing.

Told you ninth grade was great.

"Yeah, whatever." I mumbled, rolling my eyes.

You're no fun.

"I could say the same about you. Why can't you leave me alone for even half an hour to watch something?"

TV sucks. Why do you wanna watch it anyways?

"Cause it passes the time until I can get out of here."

Cause your home life is so much better.

"It would be if you weren't here."

Wow, okay, rude.

"Cause you're so civil."

I would be if you weren't here.

"Don't mimic me."

Why not?

"Cause its annoying, why else?"

That's just a reason to keep doing it then.

I rolled my eyes again and crossed my arms. "Why?"

Why not?

Before I could reply, mom came in looking really excited.

"Why so excited, mom?" I asked.

"I just finished talking with Dr. Glenn and she said you can leave tomorrow!"

"Really? That's great! What made her change her mind about keeping me for the next few days?"

"I may or may not have told her you have an important test to do Wednesday.."

"You lied to a doctor? Really, mom?"

"Oh, like you've never lied before."

"Not to a freaking doctor!"

"Does it really matter what I said?"

"No," I sighed. "guess not."

"Glad we're on the same page now." She laughed a little. "You should do your homework so you're caught up for school."

I nodded and reached for the papers I had thrown on the floor.

"Tyler, wake up." Mom said softly, gently shaking my shoulder. Once she saw I was awake, she said, "The doctor's coming in around half an hour to do a final assessment and sign the release papers."

I rolled over slightly to look at her with a small smile spreading across my face.

"Happy to get out of here I take it?" She chuckled.

"Yeah, I am." I answered, yawning.

She flashed a smile and left so I could get dressed.

A few minutes later, a nurse came in to drop off some "food" for me. I didn't recognize this nurse, and she didn't seem to really know anything about me, so I came to the misguided conclusion that she's new.

I flashed her a quick smile. Once she left, I walked over to the tray she'd set on the table to see what it was. It looked like a knockoff Lucky Charms and Fruit Loops mix and some burnt toast. There wasn't even any jam to put on the toast. Not appetizing at all. To be fair though, it was the least disguising thing I've seen here in a while.

I took a few bites out of the toast and ate half of the cereal mix thing. Mostly so they wouldn't think I haven't been eating and want to keep me here longer.

Mom came in and sat on the foot of the bed, looking at the "food".

"What the heck is that?" She asked with a disgusted expression, pointing at the bowl.

""Cereal."" I answered, putting air quotes on the word.

"I don't know how you ate even half of that. It looks horrible."

"Didn't taste much better than it looks."

"I bet." She paused for a minute looking deep in thought. Then she spoke up. "I didn't forget to tell you that you have a game on Thursday, did I?"

"Unless I have short term memory loss, I think you forgot to tell me."

"Shoot! Ty, I'm so sorry."

"Don't worry about it, mom."

She smiled and nodded.

Not long after the same nurse took back what was left of the yuck on the tray back, Dr. Glenn came in.

"Hey guys." She greeted with an obviously faked happy voice and a very forced smile. Anyone could plainly see she'd rather be anywhere else than here.

Mom and I both mumbled a hi.

"Let's just jump right into this." Her fake voice and forced smile dropped instantly.

She asked me a bunch of stupid routine questions and then asked mom a separate, yet almost the same, set of questions. Then she went on to talk about changing my meds again. I zoned out for that part cause it was mainly directed at mom.

"... Tyler, you'll have to work more for anything to get better now because of the change in medicine."

I had no clue what she was talking about, but went along with it anyways and nodded.

"Your voices might be louder and more demanding." She warned. I nodded again. "Alright, now that that's all out of the way, I'll get the release forms."

Mom and I both sat in silence, anxiously waiting for her to get back. Mom seemed to have wanted out of here as much as me, if not more. She's always hated hospitals.

"Okay, Kelly, I'll just need you to sign here, and here." Dr. Glenn stated as she walked through the doors.

Mom quickly signed everywhere Dr. Glenn pointed to, and within ten minutes, we were allowed to leave.

I already had my bag packed, so I grabbed it and made a mad dash for the exit with mom hot on my trail.

We got in the car and both let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank god we're out of there." I mumbled.

"Yeah." Mom sighed.

She quickly drove home. We spent the last day before our lives would go back to their routine watching crappy old movies.
