Chapter 48 - Into the Night

Agent Zero's office was in the last floor of the building. It was anything I expected, wide and white. Aakalain mong nasa langit ka na kapag tumapak ka sa opisina niya.

She offered us to sit, pero walang umupo sa amin. We were too agitated to sit. A trip to her office was another lost of our precious time, but we just couldn't argue with her, could we? Kahit pa nga hindi buo ang tiwala namin sa kanya bilang mukhang may kinalaman din siya sa mga nangyayari bilang si Helena Soriano.

Agent Zero leaned on her table and looked directly at me. "I believe you already knew where the diamond is."

"I am." Walang gatol kong sagot. Ramdam kong pinagtinginan ako nina Justin at Alexander.

"Good. Then we have nothing to worry about. Kailangan mo lang makuha 'yon."

I smirked and shook my head. Ridiculous. "No."

Lumukot ang mukha niya, hindi na naitago ang pagkadismaya. "You're being stubborn. Your family's lives are at stake! Bakit ayaw mong makipag-cooperate?"

"I'm cooperating. I will set off with Xander's team and save my family."

"And the diamond?"

Bumuntong-hininga ako. Nauubos na pasensya ko. "Just so you know, I'm not good at negotiation. I just fire and go wild."

Nagtangis ang mga bagang ni Agent Zero. She threw me a sharp look that could send any creature scurrying off, but I didn't waver.

"If you're really that desperate then, go find it." Maanghang kong sabi. Time was ticking and standing there arguing about a goddamned diamond wore my patience.

Hindi ko na siya hinintay sumagot. Tinalikuran ko na siya at umalis. Matagal-tagal bago sumunod sina Justin at Alexander. Marahil limang minuto pa ang pinaghintay ko sa labas ng elevator bago sila lumabas ng opisina ni Agent Zero.

Nakangising umiiling si Justin samantalang lukot ang mukha ni Alexander.

"What took you so long?" Tanong ko sa kanila.

"A bargain with the Queen." Justin said.

"What bargain?"

Hindi siya sa sumagot hanggang makasakay kami sa elevator. I snuck a peek on my phone and saw it was almost 8:30 in the evening. We have until morning to save my family and we had wasted too much time.

"So?" Untag ko sa dalawa.

"The hitmen that fired at us earlier at District Five are members of the Harlequin." Justin answered. "Agent Zero sent them. Sya mismo ang nagsabi. It was meant for Dos. Supposedly a warning. Apparently, she knows about the existence of the Elementals. And she doesn't trust them."

"Iniutos niya lang kanina na hingin ang tulong ni Dos, ah." Sabi ko.

"Dahil mas alam daw nito ang maaari nating makaharap sa bitag ni Havillard." Ani naman ni Alexander.

"I don't get her." I said at no one in particular. "What's the bargain?" Tanong ko kay Justin.

"A very valuable information in exchange of the diamond."

"What information?"

Napangisi siya. "Sa tingin mo sasabihin niya sa amin nang wala pa ang diamond?"

Tss. Okay. Katangahan moment. Wala pa akong maayos na tulog, pagod ako, gutom...so sana naintindihan nila.

"Ano, na-curious ka?" Pang-aasar pa ni Justin. "Then, go find the diamond and give it to her."
