Chapter 2
It was already after school when I decided to go to the small convenient store, but since I didn't have a car yet my mom dropped me off, and I was going to walk back afterwards.
The cashier seemed to be gone but there was someone waiting patiently in line. I grabbed a bag of chips and head in the line also. I saw the guy in front of me had blonde hair and when he turned around I recognized him.
Nate Tucker, I didn't know him much, but I have heard of him. He was holding a bottle of soda and gum. He looked at me and gave me a curt nod. We waited and I started wondering where the cashier was at. I was getting really impatient.
Just then Both mine and Nate's phone rang. We give each other perplexed looks then answered our phones.
"Hello?" I ask, not looking at the I.D.
"Athena you need to hurry and find a way to get to the hospital now!!! Persie is going into labor, but there is some kind of problem and you need to hurry and get here." My mom rushed out sounding extremely panicked.
My stomach dropped when I heard that there was something wrong with her labor.
"Mom, stay calm, I'll be there," then hung up.
I started panicking because I noticed I had no ride, plus the hospital was all the way across town, so I couldn't walk there. I started panicking and hyperventilating. I noticed Nate was talking on the phone sounding panicked also.
He looked at my hyperventilated state. "Are you ok?" He asks.
"No! My sister is going into labor right now and the hospital is all the way across town and I have no ride there, and now I have the urge to pee and a cramp in my calf muscle! So, NO! I'm not Ok!" I started freaking out.
"Well that's a convenience, my sister is going into labor right now also, so I need to head out now, do you need a lift?" He ask me. I nod my head frantically and we both run out to his car.
If I wasn't worried about my sister I probably would have stopped to admire his car, but there was no time for that. I opened the passenger side car door and sat down inside. He engined his car and started backing out of the parking lot.
He was speeding and neither of us talked. We were driving on a rode with a clearing with just field around us with no other cars on the road. His car made a weird noise then his car got slower and slower then it just completely stopped.
"What happened?" I asked, confused.
"Umm... well, I ran out of gas..." He says in a panicked voice. I start to panic again, I got out of the car and started walking.
"Where are you going?" Nate asked from the car door.
"I have to be there for my sister when she gives birth to my first niece or nephew!" I scream back, so he can hear me. He starts running after me, I guess he's coming too.
"Ughhh.... I feel so stupid I should have gotten gas before. I'm sorry this is my fault," he lets out a defeated sigh. That caused me to smile at him.
"It's not your fault, thanks for giving me a lift even though you didn't know me, If you hadn't drove me this far I would've had to walk all the way from the convenience store," I told him. He smiled right back at me.
"I do know you though, you go to my school, Athena right?" He asks, I nod my head.
"How'd you know?" I ask with furrowed eyebrows.
"My friend Dylan is dating your friend Brit, and she talks about you a lot," He shrugs.
We keep conversing until we finally get to the hospital an hour later. I almost leap in joy when we get there. I walked to the receptionist with Nate right behind me.
"I'm here for Persephone May," I say.
"I'm here for Lisa Tucker," Nate says after me.
The receptionist types something in the computer then looks up to us.
"Persephone in room 567 and Lisa in room 568," She says smiling at us. Well wow, our rooms are right next to each other. We finally parted ways when he went to his door and I went to mine.
"I hope everything turns out okay," He says to me right before he walks into his room. I walk into mine to find my sister asleep. My parents are sitting down in the chairs at the corner of the room.
"Mom, Dad, How's the baby?" I ask worriedly. Mom smiled at me reassuringly.
"The baby's fine," My mom says, causing me to breathe a sigh of relief.
"So, when is she going into labor?" I ask, my mom walks over to me so I didn't have to talk so loud for her to hear me, and wake up my sister.
"Hopefully tonight," My mother answers.
"So we still don't know the gender yet, right?" I ask. My sister didn't want anyone to know the gender yet and wanted it to be a surprise when it's born. My mom shook her head. "Okay then we'll just find out later on tonight."
We spent the whole night there and at 4:37 AM my new niece Tina was born.
